Impacts of marketplaces on Brazilian entrepreneurship

In recent years, marketplaces have emerged as a fundamental pillar of digital entrepreneurship in Brazil. These sales platforms have become a catalyst for economic and social transformation. Research conducted by the Brazilian Association of Electronic Commerce (ABComm) in partnership with Shopee reveals data that reinforces this view and demonstrates the profound impact of the app on the lives of millions of Brazilians.

To give you an idea, one-third of Brazilian sellers began their online sales journey on marketplaces. This data reflects the accessibility and trust that new entrepreneurs place in the online channel, seeing it as an opportunity to enter and grow in e-commerce.

According to the research, for 30% of local entrepreneurs on the marketplace, Shopee is the main source of family income. In times of economic uncertainty, having a stable source of income is crucial, and online sales have proven to be an indispensable ally.

The study also points out that 40% of entrepreneurs expanded their operations after starting to sell on the marketplace. This growth is driven by the ease of use of the tool and the resources offered, allowing small and medium-sized enterprises to scale their operations efficiently. One example is Kokeshi Cosméticos, which, since 2020, has used the platform to achieve significant results and expand its customer base nationwide.

Job creation and digital inclusion

It is estimated that marketplaces generate income for millions of Brazilians. Shopee alone already has three million registered Brazilian merchants, and according to research, Shopee sellers also generate employment opportunities for 1.3 million people in Brazil. In total, 25% of these workers dedicate themselves exclusively to selling on the platform.

Women in entrepreneurship

According to ABComm, e-commerce has become a consolidated tool for female entrepreneurship. Women's participation in online sales is on the rise and already represents more than 50% of active merchants in marketplaces in Brazil. Every day, women are standing out more in digital transformation, social impact, and commercial performance, further promoting inclusion and female empowerment in entrepreneurship.

Education

According to the research, more than 40% of the entrepreneurs interviewed have a higher education degree, and 65% sell exclusively online. This data shows the role of education in training entrepreneurs capable of facing the challenges of the digital market. Furthermore, 80% of sellers report significant personal achievements after starting to sell on the platform.

Finally, the data presented by ABComm and Shopee demonstrate the positive impact of marketplaces on the Brazilian economy and the lives of its sellers. The channel stands out not only as a sales alternative, but as a transformative agent that provides growth, financial stability, and digital inclusion.

The success story of these entrepreneurs proves that, with the right tools, it is possible to transform dreams into reality and contribute to the economic and social development of Brazil.
