ACSP: 46,7% of Brazilians intend to buy gifts for Mother's Day

The national purchase intention survey of the São Paulo Commercial Association (ACSP), realizada pela PiniOn, which included a sample of 1.631 respondents. Of this total, 46,7% of respondents intend to buy gifts for Mother's Day, 32,0% responded that they have no intention of doing it, while 21,3% do not know. Regarding last year, the proportions of those who expressed an intention to buy and those who do not intend to purchase gifts increased slightly, reducing the percentage of undecided voters

Do grupo de entrevistados que planejam apresentar às suas mães, 39,7% intend to spend more than in 2024, as 34,2% want the opposite. In comparison with last year, the proportions of both types of interviewees increased, although mildly in the second case. In terms of expenditure level, the majority (77,6%) intends to spend between R$ 50,00 and R$ 600,00

The research also indicated that most purchases would be made at small establishments (43,7%), and in person, in physical stores (60,8%). La maggioranza degli intervistati (69,4%) stated that they would not use the 13th advance for purchases on this commemorative date

Table 1 records the main categories of goods and services that are part of the respondents' purchase intention, assim como se o pagamento seria efetuado em dinheiro/débito, PIX or installment. It is important to remember that more than one gift option can be chosen by each of those consulted

The clothing sector remains one of the main items, with 52,9%, however, continuando bem abaixo do que era antes da pandemia (80,0%). Gifts belonging to the beauty sector, besides jewellery and costume jewellery, they continue to be remembered for mothers and account for about 58,2% of the intentions

On the other hand, there is a reduction in the furniture categories, home appliances and digital products, what, summed, represent approximately 38,4% of purchase intentions, below 45,1% registered in the previous year's survey. This decline may be related to the increase in interest rates compared to last year

Chocolates (isolated with 15,5% of preferences) continue to be mentioned, even after Easter, while, beside the flowers, they perform 27,5% of the preferences

In general, continues to be noticeable a significant decrease in the willingness to buy on installment, regarding 2024, while for most items there remains a greater preference for using cash and debit cards, and regarding using the PIX method as a form of immediate payment, although this modality has also increased

The decrease in the intention to parcel purchases could be associated with a significant increase in interest rates compared to last year, in a context of high household debt

For the economist of ACSP, Ulisses Ruiz de Gamboa, in summary, the purchase intentions for Mother's Day, in general, they continue to point to a greater preference for lower-value articles, fewer dependents on financing via credit.

The intention to buy on the date increased moderately compared to last year's survey, reflecting the most difficult financial situation faced by families, in a context of high interest rates, elevated debt levels and sharp increases in basic goods prices. У всякому разі, the higher propensity to buy in person, in small establishments, beneficiary especially the more traditional trade, explicó Ruiz de Gamboa
