The IODE-PMEs functions as an economic thermometer for companies with annual revenues of up to R$50 million, divided into 701 economic activities that make up four major sectors: Trade, Industry, Infrastructure and Services

Felipe Beraldi, economist and manager of Indicators and Economic Studies at Omie, cloud management platform (ERP), indicates that the rise of SMEs in September was widespread across sectors. The maintenance of positive signals in the Brazilian macroeconomic environment from the perspective of the labor market and family income continues to drive the performance of SMEs, at the same time as consumer confidence, measured by the FGV indicator (ICC-FGV), is showing an increase in the recent period, reinforcing the positive context for consumption, contextualizes

The highlight was on Trade, that recorded an evolution of 19,2% in September in the year-on-year comparison – until then one of the best results in the segment in 2024. "The consistent recovery in recent months", both wholesale and retail, suggests a promising year-end for SMEs in the sector. This context raises expectations for the impact of seasonal dates, how theBlack Friday, in the companies' revenue in the coming months, explain the economist

As industrial SMEs, returned to positive territory in September, after a slight retreat in the previous month, registering a progress of 11,8% year-on-year. Among the 22 monitored subsegments of the manufacturing industry, 18 reported an increase in revenue, in greater evidence the activities of 'Furniture Manufacturing', Manufacture of metal products and Manufacture of pulp and paper products

Already in the Services sector, the SMEs advanced 7,3% in September, it is important to emphasize the high comparison base of 2023 due to the recovery that the sector was already showing at that time. In the month, the performance was driven by the improvement in 'Administrative Activities' and 'Delivery Activities'

Finally, SMEs in the Infrastructure sector recorded an increase of 11,3% in real financial transactions in September. The segments of 'Electricity' and 'Specialized services for construction' predominated for the advancement of the sector throughout the third quarter

The positive result in the last month contributes to the positive maintenance of the revenue of Brazilian SMEs in the short term. "Even with the prospects of increased inflationary pressures and interest rates", factors such as high consumer confidence and the persistence of the unemployment rate at historically low levels should support the continued growth of SMEs in the coming months, foresees Beraldi
