Impacts of marketplaces on Brazilian entrepreneurship

In recent years, marketplaces have stood out as a fundamental pillar for digital entrepreneurship in Brazil. These sales platforms have become a catalyst for economic and social transformation. A survey conducted by the Brazilian Association of Electronic Commerce (ABComm) in partnership with Shopee, reveals data that reinforces this view and demonstrates the profound impact of the app on the lives of millions of Brazilians.

To get an idea, a third of Brazilian sellers started their online sales journey in the marketplace. The data reflects the accessibility and the trust placed by new entrepreneurs in the online channel, that see it as an opportunity to enter and grow in e-commerce.

Згідно з дослідженням, for 30% of local entrepreneurs in the marketplace, Shopee is the main source of family income. In times of economic uncertainty, having a stable source of income is crucial, and online sales have proven to be an indispensable ally.

The study also points out that 40% of entrepreneurs expanded their operations after they started selling on the marketplace. This growth is driven by the ease of use of the tool and the resources offered, allowing small and medium enterprises to scale their operations efficiently. An example is Kokeshi Cosmetics, what, since 2020, use the platform to achieve significant results and expand your customer base nationally.

Job creation and digital inclusion

It is estimated that marketplaces generate income for millions of Brazilians. There are already three million registered Brazilian sellers on Shopee and, according to the research, the sellers on Shopee also create job opportunities for 1,3 million people in Brazil. In total, 25% of these workers are dedicated exclusively to sales on the platform.

Women in entrepreneurship

According to ABComm, e-commerce has established itself as a tool for female entrepreneurship. The participation of women is on the rise in online sales and already represents more than 50% of active retailers in marketplaces in Brazil. Every day, women stand out more in digital transformation, social impact and commercial performance, further promoting inclusion and women's empowerment in entrepreneurship.

Education

According to the research, more than 40% of the interviewed entrepreneurs have a higher education degree, and 65% sell exclusively in the online format. This data shows the role of education in training entrepreneurs capable of facing the challenges of the digital market. Furthermore, 80% of sellers report significant personal achievements after they start selling on the platform.

Finally, the data presented by ABComm and Shopee demonstrate the positive impact of marketplaces on the Brazilian economy and the lives of their sellers. The channel stands out not only as a sales alternative, but as a transformative agent that provides growth, financial stability and digital inclusion.

The success story of these entrepreneurs is proof that, with the right tools, it is possible to turn dreams into reality and contribute to the economic and social development of Brazil
