Most of the texts on logistics trends for 2025 that you will read will follow a similar line among themselves. If you give me the chance to guess, I dare say they will talk about data, artificial intelligence and sustainability. I prefer to start with a different premise: one of the main trends in freight transport for 2025 is the change – in progress – from the perspective that a large part of companies has today about logistics
Those who did not understand this new vision have already started to fall behind. Although it seems utopian, thinking about the logistics strategy from now on requires imagining a future where all the trucks in the fleet serving your company will always travel full. When making a delivery, they will have another scheduled in the agenda, they will add intelligence to the choice of loads. No kilometer will be traveled in vain. Every driver can deliver more using fewer resources. This is the new parameter.
Although so far no one has achieved the desired 100% success rate, this type of vision is at least a good guide. Yes, it is a new Road. The vision of running with the truck always full is driven by teams with deep knowledge of the transportation routine, that use their experience to innovate, restructure the freight according to the new times and make digitalization one of your high-performance tools
Of course there are obstacles. According to estimates from the Brazilian market, trucks still run empty on average between 30% and 40% of their time. Organizations have realized, however, that there is no alternative to staying competitive in the market other than embracing a new vision of logistics. The difference between companies that have remained in the analog world and those that have managed to incorporate changes to make a leap in service level has become more evident, agility and cost reduction
Therefore, I don't like to say that technology is a trend for 2025. Year after year, technology fits into this category, it's no news. According to the consulting firm McKinsey, only 13% of organizations in Brazil that have digitized part of their supply chains are able to take full advantage of what they have implemented. So, the technology has arrived, and what was the consequence of that
If in many cases the results of the arrival of technological resources have not yet reached their peak, I observe within companies that there is a greater awareness of the need to organize in order to expand the effects of innovation
There is an awareness that we need to involve experience in freight, review and simplify processes, empower people, reassess the cargo transport strategy within organizations and, with a systemic vision, encompass everything that can generate operational efficiency in logistics. That is: never lose sight of the possibility of driving with the truck full all the time.
The new perspective on logistics is what helps us better understand the role of sustainability on the Road as well. Encouraging sustainable intelligence with solutions that are born with reduced impacts, helping to consume less fuel, generate less harmful gases for the environment and improve the quality of life of professionals involved in logistics. More of a trend than sustainability itself is the new vision of logistics, that cannot exist without these principles.
And your company? Have you changed your view on logistics
