A trend of returning to in-person and hybrid work is growing in Brazil, a survey shows.

The in-office or hybrid work model with more days in the office is on the rise in Brazil. This is revealed by a new survey conducted by Swile and Leme Consultoria. The survey shows that 65.91% of companies adopt these formats, while only 13.31% of organizations maintain a fully remote regime.

To encourage this transition, companies are increasingly investing in benefits that facilitate employee commutes. The study recorded a 203% increase in Fuel Allowance and a 76% rise in Car Allowance, demonstrating companies' commitment to supporting physical presence in the offices.

Julio Brito, CEO of Swile Brazil, comments on this trend: "We're seeing a clear movement of companies encouraging a return to in-person work, not just as an operational matter, but as a strategy to strengthen corporate culture and promote greater interaction between teams."

Impact on the property market and urban mobility

This change also has direct repercussions for the commercial property sector. Data from Cushman & Wakefield indicates that the office vacancy rate has reached its lowest level since 2021. In São Paulo, the average price for high-end office rentals saw an increase of 11% in 2024, reaching R$$ 116.49 per square metre, according to a survey by Binswanger Brazil. Furthermore, the return to in-person work has impacted urban mobility. Traffic in major cities has increased significantly.

Organisational Culture in Focus

Unlike many people imagine, the return to in-person work isn't directly linked to productivity concerns, but rather to strengthening company culture. Businesses are seeking greater interaction between teams, promoting integration and collaboration as vital factors for business development.

Flexibility remains a crucial aspect for Brazilian workers, but we see many companies trying to find a balance between the benefits of remote work and the need for in-person interaction," adds Julio Brito.

Regarding the yearbook:

The Swile and Leme Consulting yearbook surveyed approximately 800 companies of various sizes and sectors. The research data provides a clear view of current market practices and what truly matters to employees today. The document has become a benchmark for HR professionals, people managers, and leaders looking to stay ahead of the market.
