Mercado Livre presents the results of the “O melhor do Brasil” Impact Report”, a study conducted in partnership with Euromonitor International, which assesses the social and economic impact generated by entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through its ecosystem, confirming the transformative power of the digital economy in the country.
With consolidated data from 2024, the report reveals that 5.8 million businesses used the company's ecosystem in the country, moving R$ 381 billion, a value equivalent to 3.2% of the Brazilian GDP. For 59% of the SMEs operating on the marketplace, the sales generated on Mercado Livre represent their main source of revenue. SMEs generated over R$ 90 billion in sales through Mercado Livre last year.
And this impact goes beyond sales volume: over 111,000 jobs were created directly by SMEs selling on the marketplace. Also considering Mercado Livre's direct jobs and the indirect jobs linked to logistics, an average of 20 new jobs were created per hour.
The strength of the ecosystem also lies in the integration of different business chains. In addition to the marketplace and its own logistics, Mercado Pago is establishing itself as a growth engine for small businesses: 60.5% of the SMEs that adopted the digital bank in 2024 reported an increase in sales. Today, 3 out of every 5 SMEs on the platform use Mercado Pago as their primary payment method.
“The report demonstrates how Mercado Livre has been fulfilling its mission to democratize access to commerce and financial services, shorten distances, and expand opportunities. More than just numbers, the data reflects real stories of transformation experienced by millions of Brazilians who undertake and grow together with the platform. This entrepreneurial Brazil is at the heart of our ecosystem, generating development and growth. After all, what drives us is this: to deliver the best of Brazil every day, within and beyond our platform”, stated Fernando Yunes, Senior Vice President and Leader of Mercado Livre in Brazil.
The “O Melhor do Brasil” Impact Report research was developed based on more than 7,700 interviews with active SMEs and entrepreneurs on Mercado Livre and Mercado Pago, in addition to considering the analysis of the company's internal data and qualitative interviews with agents from the logistics chain, such as last-mile operators and the company's distribution centers. *Based on the 2024 Brazilian GDP data according to IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) considering gross sales on the marketplace, the payroll mass mobilized by shipments resulting from sales, and the gross sales processed via Mercado Pago.
方法论
The “O Melhor do Brasil” Impact Report aims to deepen the understanding of the social and economic impact of the Mercado Livre ecosystem, focusing on the dynamic role it plays for Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) and entrepreneurs in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. To develop the report, Euromonitor International, in collaboration with Mercado Livre, adopted a mixed methodology that integrates multiple sources: more than 7,700 surveys with SMEs and entrepreneurs using the marketplace and Mercado Pago's payment solutions; analysis of Mercado Livre's internal data on sales, fintech activity, and job generation; qualitative interviews with key actors in the logistics chain (last-mile operators, distribution centers, and carriers); in addition to secondary research with external sources to measure the micro and macroeconomic effects.
