Brazilian postal service Correios revolutionizes e-commerce with new marketplace platform and competes with market giants.

In recent years, the Brazilian postal service (Correios) has seen e-commerce giants gain ground in Brazilian logistics. Platforms like Amazon, Shopee, and Mercado Livre have stood out with advanced systems that have won consumer preference.

Furthermore, the state-owned company's financial difficulties have been worsening. In 2024, the company even recorded a 780% increase in losses compared to the previous year.

On the other hand, a new development promises to change the landscape in the coming months. In partnership with Infracommerce, the Mais Correios service was launched with the goal of offering a more innovative and efficient service, capable of helping the company overcome the crisis.

New service focuses on modernization and national reach.

Mais Correios is part of the Correios do Futuro (Correios of the Future) project. Its main objective is to make operations more versatile, allowing for a service that is more suited to and closer to the needs of Brazilian consumers.

One of the changes planned is to guarantee access to the postal service from any city in the country. Currently, the service faces limitations in some regions, especially the most remote ones, and the expectation is to expand this coverage.

To achieve this, Mais Correios relies on the company's national infrastructure, taking advantage of the fact that it is a state-owned company with a presence throughout the country. Internally, the projection is that this will be an advantage over the private sector, which has more logistical constraints.

According to Fabiano Silva, president of the Brazilian postal service, security will be one of the central pillars of the new platform, with planned investments in rigorous security measures. Furthermore, the promise is to offer affordable shipping options to consumers.

Another aspect lies in developing a practical and easy-to-navigate website. According to Hostinger , a website creation specialist, this factor is essential nowadays, as consumers increasingly prioritize convenience when making purchases.

The launch date for Mais Correios has not yet been announced, but it is expected to go live in the first half of 2025.

Brazilian postal service tries to reverse financial crisis.

The change comes amid a delicate financial scenario. According to the Ministry of Management and Innovation, the Post Office will accumulate a deficit of R$ 3.2 billion in 2024.

Faced with this situation, the state-owned company's management conducted an analysis to assess the continuity of its activities. As a result, a plan was drawn up with the following objectives: to strengthen its performance in e-commerce, to win over the public sector, and to seek tax credits.

Furthermore, recent data indicates that the taxation on international purchases has also impacted the service. It is estimated that the postal service has lost R$ 2.2 billion due to the tax changes.

Logistics is growing in Brazil and opening up opportunities.

A study released by Loggi showed the current state of logistics in Brazil, based on data from the first quarter of this year. According to the survey, an order is placed every seven seconds , demonstrating the high demand for e-commerce in the country.

In the period analyzed alone, 18 million deliveries were made throughout the country. Furthermore, approximately 20,000 companies participated in this initiative, with the clothing and fashion sector leading the way.

Although market competition is intense, the scenario could be an opportunity for the Post Office. With the advantage of being a state-owned service, which benefits from incentives and a high level of trust, the launch of an updated platform emerges as a possible solution to face the crisis and reposition the company in the market.
