China advances with generative AI and challenges Western leadership in image creation

The Chinese startup DeepSeek announced in June the launch of Janus-Pro-7B, an AI-powered image generation model that, according to internal benchmarks, surpassed competitors such as OpenAI's DALL-E 3 and Stability AI's Stable Diffusion. With 84.2% accuracy in the DPG-Bench test, one of the main benchmarks for visual quality, the Janus-Pro-7B represents a leap in China's ability to compete with Silicon Valley in the generative AI segment.

The model was trained on over 90 million samples, combining real and synthetic data, and is available in 1 billion and 7 billion parameter versions, allowing for greater flexibility for companies and developers. The launch coincides with the growth of AI investments by giants such as Baidu, Tencent, and Alibaba, which have been driving open-source solutions and increasing the country's global competitiveness in the sector.

For Rafael Franco's, CEO of Alphacode, a company specializing in app development with headquarters in São Paulo, Curitiba, and Orlando (USA), China's advancement in AI is a clear sign of a shift in the global innovation dynamic. "Generative artificial intelligence has become one of the pillars of technological innovation, and China's growth in this sector signals a future where the diversity of solutions will be even greater. This means that companies need to adapt quickly to integrate these new tools efficiently and strategically," analyzes Franco.

The impact is not restricted to Asia. In the United States, the DeepSeek-V3 assistant has become the most downloaded free app on the App Store, surpassing ChatGPT itself. This movement highlights the global appeal of Chinese solutions and expands their presence in markets previously dominated by Western companies.

The arrival of models like Janus-Pro-7B on the international market can have significant impacts on sectors such as graphic design, advertising, and digital content production. "More efficient and accessible models open up new possibilities, but they require companies to know how to use these technologies to generate real value for users and businesses," notes Franco.

The growth of Chinese generative AI also raises debates about regulation, technological sovereignty, and cybersecurity, especially given the opening of models to developers from different countries. By making cutting-edge technologies more accessible, DeepSeek and other Chinese startups promote a decentralization of innovation that can alter the strategies of creative companies and advertising agencies, including in Brazil.

According to Franco, the challenge for Brazilian companies will be to find ways to integrate these technologies strategically, without losing control over security, originality, and local relevance. "Competitive advantage will lie in the ability to adapt. The tools are available, but the differentiator will be how each company applies them to its ecosystem," concludes Rafael.
