Santander and Getnet launch Pix for Approach

Santander and Getnet, payment technology company of PagoNxt, from Santander Group, announce the launch of Pix by Approximation through Google Pay.The new functionality allows customers to make payments even more quickly and securely from the Google Wallet, just bringing their mobile devices closer to the enabled machines.

Since its launch in 2020, Pix has consolidated as the preferred means of payment of Brazilians. According to the Central Bank, in the first six months of 2024, the number of transactions via Pix exceeded 29 billion, representing a growth of 61% compared to the same period of the previous year. This advance shows the strength of the system, which has already surpassed traditional methods such as credit and debit cards, which totaled 24.2 billion transactions in the same period of comparison. Increasingly, Pix is the most used means of payment in Brazil.

With Pix by Approximation, Santander's individual customers will be able to carry out transactions automatically just by approaching the mobile phone to the machine, using the Google Wallet, without the need to open the bank's application or scan QR Codes. On the other hand, Getnet's corporate clients will be able to offer this new payment solution on their machines, adding more ease, practicality and security to the consumer experience. Near Field Communication (NFC) technology ensures advanced security through encryption and biometric authentication, protecting users' data.

In addition, agility in transactions will ensure faster service and a more fluid shopping experience, aligning with the growing demand for innovative and simplified solutions. The rollout for Santander customers will be carried out by groups, with a deadline forecast for the middle of March.

According to Izabella Belisario, director of payments and personal services at Santander, “a new functionality reinforces Santander's commitment to offer payment solutions that combine innovation, convenience and security, always focusing on improving the customer experience”.

For Mayra Borges, Vice President of business at Getnet, this innovation represents an important step in the evolution of digital payments in Brazil. “This technology applied to Pix not only facilitates the day-to-day of the customer, but also brings a standardization and important improvement in the experience of our consumer. This means that every user with access to an Android device with NFC can pay with Pix by approaching the Getnet machines with the same payment experience that already has with the” card, says the executive.

“Pix's arrival by Approach for Santander and Getnet customers is a milestone and we are happy to offer even more convenience and technology to the transaction routine of millions of Brazilian customers using Google Wallet and other Google Pay”, says Natacha Litvinov, Head of Payments Partnerships at Google Pay in Latin America.
