Valentine's Day should be celebrated more economically this year, according to research conducted by fintech my everything with 15,613 participants from across the country. A few days before the date, only 11% of those interviewed said they intend to buy gifts for their partner, while 8% are still undecided.
The survey reveals a cautious spending landscape. Among those planning to give gifts, 47% expect to spend up to R$$ 50. Another 12% expect to spend up to R$$ 100, and only 10% estimate spending between R$$ 100 and R$$ 200. A significant portion, 30%, intend to spend over R$$ 200—indicating that, although average spending is low, some still opt for higher-value gifts.
As for the type of gift, the situation remains uncertain: 37% of those surveyed who intend to buy haven't yet decided what to give. Among those who have already chosen, perfumes and cosmetics lead, with 18%, followed by clothing and accessories (16%). Experiences, such as dinners for two, are the choice of 7%. Items such as electronics and gift cards were also mentioned, but represent a smaller share.
"The data shows that consumers are more mindful of how they spend their money. Planning is a key characteristic this Valentine's Day, with choices based on both the value and meaning of the gift," says Márcio Feitoza, CEO of meutudo.
When it comes to shopping, physical stores remain the preferred choice, with 451% of consumers choosing online. Online shopping comes in second, with 231% choosing online. Still, 31% of respondents are undecided about where to shop, reinforcing the idea that many are still evaluating their options.
Regarding payment methods, PIX leads with 45% of preferences. Credit cards come next, with 12%, followed by cash (10%) and debit cards (7%).
According to Feitoza, PIX's popularity reflects the growth of digital payment methods in the country, especially on special occasions. "The growth in PIX use on these occasions shows how quickly Brazilian consumers have adopted digital solutions. Besides its practicality, it's well-suited for one-off purchases, such as those for special occasions, without compromising the budget in the long term," he adds.
