The national shopping intention survey of the Sao Paulo Commercial Association (ACSP), conducted by PiniOn, which had a sample of 1,631 respondents.Of this total, 46.7% of respondents intend to buy gifts on Mother's Day, 32.0% responded that they have no intention of doing so, while 21.3% do not know.Reading to last year, the proportions of those who expressed purchase intention and those who do not intend to acquire gifts have increased slightly, decreasing the percentage of undecided.
Of the group of respondents planning to present their mothers, 39,7% intend to spend more than in 2024, while 34,2% wish otherwise. Compared to last year, increased the proportions of both types of respondents, although slightly in the second case. In terms of the level of spending, the majority (77,6%) intends to spend between R$ 50,00 and R$ 600,00.
The survey also pointed out that most purchases would be made in small establishments (43,7%), and in person, in physical stores (60,8%). Most respondents (69,4%) expressed that they would not use the anticipation of the 13th in purchases for this commemorative date.
Table 1 shows the main categories of goods and services that are part of the purchase intention of the interviewees, as well as whether the payment would be made in cash/debit, PIX or in installments. It is important to remember that more than one gift option can be chosen by each of the respondents.

The clothing area remains one of the main items, with 52.9%, however, following well below what it was before the pandemic (80.0%). Gifts belonging to the beauty area, in addition to jewelry, continue to be remembered for mothers and make up about 58.2% of intentions.
On the other hand, there is a reduction in the categories of furniture, home appliances and digital products, which, in addition, represent about 38.4% of purchase intentions, below the 45.1% recorded in the survey of the previous year. This drop may be related to the increase in interest rates compared to last year.
Chocolates (alone with 15.5% of preferences) continue to be mentioned even after Easter, while, next to the flowers, they make up 27.5% of preferences.
In general, there is still a significant decrease in the willingness to buy in installments, compared to 2024, while for most items there is still a greater preference for the use of cash and debit cards, and in relation to using the PIX modality as a form of cash payment, although this modality has also increased.
The decrease in the intention to install purchases could be associated with a significant increase in interest rates compared to last year, in a context of high household debt.
For the economist of the ACSP, Ulisses Ruiz de Gamboa, in summary, the purchase intentions for Mother's Day, in general, continue to point to a greater preference for articles of lower value, less dependent on financing via credit.
“The intention to buy at the time increased moderately compared to last year's survey, reflecting the most difficult financial situation faced by families, in a context of high interest rates, high debt and strong increases in prices of basic products. Anyway, the greater propensity to buy in person, in small establishments, would especially benefit the more traditional commerce”, explained Ruiz de Gamboa.
