It Is Allowed to Make Mistakes Along the Way

We are at the beginning of a new year, a time that we traditionally use to set goals and establish the goals that will guide the company's path all year round. However, those who think that it is enough to put the first “great idea”, which will be enough. On the contrary, to do this correctly, it is necessary to evaluate the history of the company, starting with the balance sheet of 2024.

I know that saying this may seem a little obvious, but several companies still do not do this process. There are some managers who believe that they must spend a rubber the previous year, as soon as the recess ends and the real work begins. And well, in my experience, unless it is a new organization in the market, it makes no sense to pretend that nothing has happened before.

You must be wondering: why? The answer is simple: start everything “from zero”, ignoring the existence of a previous job, ends all chances of your business to thrive. After all, even if you give up on it and start another company, change area or want to do the same job in a different way, you need to understand the past to get right in the present and ensure a better future.

In this sense, the recommended would be to have a document containing the data with the balance of the previous year, to be able to understand the current situation of your company, knowing errors and successes, as well as knowing where it is well and where it needs to improve. Without this, it is difficult to know where to go. And as the laughing cat of the classic story would say Alice in Wonderlandif you don't know where to go, any path will do.

However, be aware that any path is not a good option when we have a business in which we want to grow, especially with employees who depend on us and the job. Therefore, using the OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) -, it can be a great solution to be able to define the best route at the moment, both for the year and especially for the next three months.

Yes, three months is an ideal time, after all, a year nowadays seems like a decade and OKRs help us a lot to work better with shorter cycles. This way, it will be possible to adjust what went wrong, if necessary, starting to work for results. And once you set the goals and set the goals & short, medium and long term & & 'to get to those expected results, it will be easier to figure out which way you should go.

And remember: it's okay to admit that the chosen path was not the best or that it was not what you expected, these things can happen and are more normal than you think. It is always possible to recalculate the route and go in a new direction. We can make mistakes, but as long as they are new mistakes.
