OLX Group uses facial biometrics to increase real estate security

With the aim of further increasing security on its platforms, OLX Group reinforces its pioneering in the real estate market with the implementation of facial biometrics for the authentication of real estate accounts and brokers in the ZAP and VivaReal portals. 

Developed by Unico, a leading company in solutions for validating the real identity of people, the resource benefits both users, who can verify the identity of the advertiser through the verification seal that will be available on the portals, as brokers and real estate agents, preventing third parties from using their data and providing greater visibility and relevance to profiles with the registered biometrics.

For the implementation of the initiative, which has technology with 100% precision, the OLX Group has already invested R$ 2 million only in 2024.“Although not mandatory, biometric registration is highly recommended, since it increases confidence in negotiations and benefits real estate and brokers. We also estimate that the measure has the potential to increase by 15% the clicks on the ads with the verification seal and, consequently, expedite the closing of business”, says Regina Botter, Product Director of the OLX Group.

The biometric technology used by the company uses more than 80 points on the face of users to recognize or certify their identity and stands out as the most reliable solution on the market, providing an additional layer of security and significantly minimizing the risk of exposure in attempts of attacks and fraud, which helps preserve the integrity and privacy of users.

The Unico biometrics system goes through four layers of analysis and protection, all with proprietary technology, including proof of life and score AI is used to ensure the highest accuracy within the shortest possible time, authenticating the user accurately in up to 3 seconds”, explains Fernanda Beato, sales director for the Unico enterprise segment.The company estimates that the use of biometrics avoided the loss of more than R$ 70 billion in frauds in 2023 alone, taking into account other sectors. 

To perform the biometric registration, the advertiser must access the exclusive platform of the OLX Group for ad management, CanalPro application, click the button “Start Check” and, on the next screen, click “Take photo with the mobile”, it is necessary to authorize the use of the camera and position the face on the screen as indicated. The process is done quickly and free of charge.

At this first moment, the “ verified advertiser” seal is only available on the ZAP and VivaReal portals.
