2025 Will redefine IoT connectivity

Eseye, a world leader in IoT connectivity solutions, has launched its long-awaited IoT Forecast Report 2025, along with the 50th episode of its IoT Leaders podcast. Now in its 6th year, the annual report, written by the CEO of Eseye, will Nick Earle'sand by the co-founder and CTO Ian Marsden'sit identifies three key trends that will significantly transform the IoT and telecommunications landscape.

“The future of IoT is not a static scenario; it is a dynamic environment driven by flexibility, innovation and convergence. The year 2025 will mark a crucial moment in the evolution of IoT”, says Nick Earle, CEO of Eseye. “For MNOs to thrive in IoT, we believe they must adhere to sharing IoT connectivity, which will create a much more viable economic model. The NB-IoT will fall out of favor in most regions due to its isolated infrastructure and limited revenue potential, while AIoT will be more used and play a crucial role in intelligent optimization of connectivity between 2 and 2 devices.

MNOs must evolve if they are to continue to have control of the market

Traditional IoT platforms lack the flexibility to support the global multi-operator connectivity of eUICC (Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card) for corporate customers. This creates an urgent need for MNOs to adopt new solutions, such as Eseye's AnyNet, which offers operators a way to adjust customer IoT devices so that they are on the network of more than 16 large mobile networks, as well as providing access to 800 additional networks via roaming. Everything orchestrated through a cloud, customizable and low-cost SaaS platform solution said to be competitive and Marsen mobile networks and allow us to manage their new, highly flexible, Marshmosome networks and mobile networks that are capable of managing networks and end up to manage their existing networks.

NB-IoT is on the decline as MNOs look for more scalable solutions

Positioned as a low-cost, low-power connectivity solution, NB-IoT is currently losing momentum due to low global adoption, rising infrastructure costs and difficulties with modem compatibility. “Despite its technical advantages, NB-IoT has not reached the critical mass needed to sustain the infrastructure to keep it alive. With large operators like AT&T discontinuing support in 2025, we think more MNOs should follow suit, preferring LTE and 5G as they are more versatile, economically viable and widely adopted”, Marsden continued.

In Brazil, technologies covering large areas with low power (LPWA LOW Power Wide Area), such as Sigfox, LoRa, LTE -M/CAT-M and NB-IoT are present in various proportions, varying according to operators and cities. “Currently, the NB-IoT covers virtually all Brazilian cities thanks to a vigorous work of the three main national operators, Vivo, TIM and Claro. Of the 5,570 Brazilian municipalities, 5,497 have NB-IoT coverage, which corresponds to 99,81 of the Brazilian population now uses the” technology. Ana Carolina Bussab, General Manager of Eseye Brazil.

The rise of AIoT is the true game changer for IoT connectivity

The convergence between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and IoT, known as AIoT, will rewrite the IoT connectivity manual in three critical areas: on-device processing, integration between different systems (application layer) and integration between different networks (network layer). “Companies and MNOs will gain new skills: preventive maintenance that prevents failures before they occur, dynamic network management that adapts to changing conditions, and on-site decision making that reduce latency and improve” reliability, explained Marsden.

An example of an IoT solution that already uses AI to enable real-time connectivity management is Eseye's AnyNet SMARTconnect SMARTconnect intelligent connectivity software, which allows devices to intuitively respond to connectivity issues, thereby optimizing their performance.

A Future Shaped by Flexibility, Innovation and Convergence

Eseye's 2025 forecasts reflect a rapidly evolving IoT ecosystem driven by the need for greater flexibility, economic sustainability and technological convergence. Earle concluded: “O the market is demanding intelligent, scalable and future-proof solutions.Whether by adopting a connectivity model shared by MNOs, by companies moving away from NB-IoT, or by the rise of AIoT 'the ability to adapt is the key. Eseye is proud to be at the forefront of these changes, continuing to provide innovative connectivity solutions that empower MNOs and IoT to deploy with confidence on a global scale.
