Data from ANTT (National Land Transport Agency) indicate that there are 2.6 million trucks and 900,000 autonomous drivers registered in Brazil. And the records about accidents with deaths are frightening. In 2023, according to the Federal Highway Police, 17,579 accidents involving trucks were recorded, resulting in 2,611 deaths. In 2024, federal road deaths increased to 3,291.
Given this scenario, Iriom, a technology company that concentrates in its application a series of services aimed at road transport professionals, launched the “Iriom Guardian”, a multi-service product that adds, in a single plan, death or disability coverage, online medical consultations Unlimited (24 hours per day), funeral assistance and emergency credit.
According to Paulo Nascimento, CEO of Iriom, the “iriom guardian” was structured based on the specific needs of truck drivers and their families, with a focus on offering support in risk situations associated with professional activity. The plan brings together different forms of protection in a single solution and seeks to facilitate access to services such as medical care, financial protection and assistance in critical situations, through the company’s application. “It is an unprecedented solution for truck drivers, an audience often neglected by traditional models of health and insurance plans”, he says.
The idea gained strength in December 2024 when Iriom carried out a qualitative research During the 36th Festa de São Cristóvão and the drivers of Garibaldi, in Rio Grande do Sul, the biggest party for truck drivers in Brazil. The result reinforced the need for more humane and accessible solutions for autonomous truck drivers.
In sampling, 52.2% of truck drivers work autonomously, 56.5% have their own truck, 72.7% are married and 86.4% of respondents have one or more children. The survey revealed that 61% have already stopped seeking medical attention because they are traveling or without easy access to health services on the road. About 57% of them drive more than 8 hours a day.
“Many drivers have mentioned that they do not have health insurance, life insurance or any protection in case of absence due to accident or illness. And the reason for this is the high cost imposed by the traditional market. The fear of something happening and not being able to help the family to solve the procedures either financially or emotionally.
The executive says that everything was formatted to guarantee the user quick access to medical care, financial support and assistance for him and his family, regardless of where he is, without bureaucracy and without weighing his pocket. You only need to activate the desired service through the application itself. The product is suitable for truck drivers who spend days or weeks away from home and face constant risks on the road.
The plan provides for coverage due to death or disability with expressive amounts, of up to R$100,000, and the contractor now has a complete funeral assistance, including national and international transfer of the body, with no mileage limit. In the market, it is common for this type of service to have partial coverage, with a distance limit or ceiling of values between R$ 3 thousand and R$ 5 thousand. “The death of a truck driver can be very difficult for family members, because, due to the profession, death can occur very far from home, which makes the cost of transporting the body high for the family”.
The usefulness of the “Iriom Guardian” is not limited to these extreme events. Those who work on their own on the roads often find themselves in a situation that needs money for an unforeseen event and has to juggle to get it. For this, the plan also offers emergency credit of up to R$ 2 thousand.
It is worth noting that there are times when the payment of the freight takes longer than normal and at these times to have access to credit is everything the driver needs to eat, pay for the truck parking, among other needs. An advantage is that the credit plan of the “iriom guardian” offers five days without interest, that is, if the driver can pay before this period – suddenly the freight value falls into the account – he is totally exempt from fees.
ecosystem
IRIOM was created with the proposal to go beyond a digital bank. The platform works as a complete ecosystem, bringing together financial services, consultation and installment of vehicular debts, in addition to offering benefits such as exclusive discounts on fuel, auto parts stores and other strategic partners aimed at the truck driver’s routine. This proposal was born from the difficulties experienced by drivers in unexpected situations on the roads. Often, a break in the vehicle means relying on third parties for financial aid, which can cause discomfort and overload.
“With the platform we create this reality changes, because the driver starts to have a support network that preserves finances and relationships with family and friends, prioritizing the well-being of professionals”, he explains.
