It’s not just today that pets have become part of the family, and pet care has taken up more space in household expenses. From beauty items to veterinary check-ups, the segment points to a growing humanization of this true domestic fauna and the emergence of multi-species families. In Brazil, dog and cat owners are more willing to invest in premium accommodations, spas, and services that promote well-being to ensure a comfortable and healthy life for their companions, including the use of clothes, accessories, and gadgets. And the numbers prove that the luxury market is becoming more animal-centric.
Pet care has grown significantly in Brazil. In 2021, the pet segment revenue in Brazil was R$ 52 billion, a 27% increase from the previous year. In 2023, the luxury market for pets yielded R$ 68.4 billion, a 13.6% increase compared to 2022. It’s no wonder that brands like Moschino, Vivara, and Zara have expanded their portfolios to cater to this audience.
André Faim is an entrepreneur in the sector, with businesses focused on animal well-being, co-founder of Lobbo Hotels, and the team management and training platform Trabalhe pra Cachorro, and he observes this transformation up close. “Pet owners are becoming increasingly demanding, seeking to provide their animals with an experience similar to what they would have at a luxury hotel for humans. This includes comfortable accommodations and spa services that promote well-being,” he points out.
The new era of pet services
The offering of luxury services for pets is not limited to well-equipped accommodations and daycares. Spas, for example, offer a variety of treatments such as massages, aromatherapy baths, and essential oils therapies. These services go beyond aesthetics, emphasizing the physical and emotional well-being of pets.
Another growing trend is the offering of treatments like consultations with specialized nutritionists, physiotherapy, and even acupuncture. These practices have proven effective in improving the quality of life of animals, especially those with specific health issues.
Specialized Professionals
Due to the high degree of specialization, the demand for luxury services for pets requires well-trained and qualified professionals. “Having a well-trained team is essential to ensure that animals receive the best possible care. Pet owners rightfully demand this dedication. Everyone working in the industry needs to be committed to providing a pleasant and safe environment for the animals,” says André Faim.
The platform ‘Trabalhe pra Cachorro,’ co-founded by Faim, is dedicated precisely to the training and management of professionals in the pet sector. Through courses and training, ‘Trabalhe pra Cachorro’ trains caregivers, trainers, and other professionals to meet the demands of an ever-evolving market.
And, it seems that this scenario is unlikely to change anytime soon. “The humanization of pets is a trend that is here to stay. People want the best for their animals, and this includes high-quality services that ensure a happy and healthy life for them,” concludes Faim.
