Scan Global Logistics strengthens presence in Latin America

By investing in strengthening its structure in Latin America, Scan Global Logistics (SGL) expands its presence in one of the emerging regions of the world, which presents great economic potential and a strategic geographical position in relation to North America and the Asia-Pacific region.

Jörn Schmersahl, CEO for Latin America, details the organization’s strategy:

“Latin America has immense potential and the expansion of our regional presence, with Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil, is a strategic investment. At the same time, we reinforce the capabilities of our teams in Mexico, Chile, and Peru. Through greater local knowledge and experience, we respond to the needs and preferences of customers more efficiently, offering better logistic solutions and services in a personalized way. Thus, our local and global customers can make more well-founded decisions to enhance and optimize their supply chains. In addition, the expanded structure of SGL LATAM will contribute to the requirements of the entire SGL network.”

In addition to reinforcing SGL’s global and regional network, the increased local presence will also enhance the company’s network with neighboring countries such as Uruguay and Paraguay. Thus, customers will benefit from expanded solutions for cross-border logistics, streamlined customs clearance, storage, and national and international road transportation services.

Throughout Latin America, SGL provides services for clients in areas such as aid and relief, energy, pharmaceuticals, industrial projects, automotive industry, FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods), food and additives, technology and manufacturing, among others.

Allan Melgaard, Global CEO of SGL, discusses the planned investments for the region:

“Latin America is an extremely interesting market, with a young and growing population, increasing purchasing power, and a diverse range of sectors and clients, making it an excellent option for our company. We are determined to continue investing in developing a strong presence in the region, to provide comprehensive and competitive logistics solutions to our customers”.

Additional markets will provide customers with better solutions, with greater flexibility:

  • Argentina (headquartered in Buenos Aires) has a robust logistics infrastructure with a well-developed port, airport, and railway system. The country’s main ports along the Atlantic Ocean offer both local and global reach services. Combined with cross-border services to Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia, customers will have even more benefits in import and export. The country offers excellent connectivity and strategic advantage for companies expanding and regionalizing their operations.
  • Colombia (headquartered in Bogotá) has ports on the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, with increased profitability from these operations turning the country into a strategic hub for Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas, as well as an entry point for other South American countries. With its extensive Free Trade Zone networks in all ports and major cities (Bogotá, Cali, and Medellín), Colombia is the perfect location for distribution in the South American continent.
  • Brazil (headquartered in São Paulo) has one of the longest maritime coasts in the world, with many deep-water ports, providing an ideal port infrastructure for international trade, along with road links with neighboring countries. SGL recently acquired Blu Logistics Brasil, specializing in commercial routes between China and Southeast Asia and Latin America. It is a key player in local air and sea logistics, with impressive growth rates of 27% and 47% in the last two years. This acquisition will provide SGL with a robust operational platform, allowing the company to expand its regional presence and offer better services to customers worldwide.

In Chile and Mexico, SGL teams have new skilled specialists in the air and sea sectors, operating from Santiago (Chile) and Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara (Mexico). Additionally, SGL Mexico is strengthening its operations on the northern border, in cooperation with SGL USA.
