ZF and Goodyear join forces to offer technological solutions to commercial vehicle fleet owners in Brazil

A ZF, global technology company that provides advanced mobility products and systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and industrial technology, and Goodyear, global manufacturer of aviation tires, automobiles, vans, pickups, SUVs, trucks and buses, they announced today a strategic partnership that brings together advanced Fleet Management solutions, specifically for monitoring high-performance tires that equip commercial vehicles and multi-brand road implements. For that, ZF has made the SCALAR EVO Pulse available, a technology capable of gathering data on transportation operations continuously and sending it in real time to the Goodyear Mobility Cloud, a portal of information that will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from where alerts will be sent to fleet operators.

The partnership debuting between ZF and Goodyear in Brazil combines the automotive and digital expertise of two of the largest companies in their sectors, generating value for fleet operators in safety and profitability, says Maurício Paguaga, Senior Manager of the Digital and Industrial Solutions Business Line at ZF Aftermarket.the robust automotive engineering of ZF, allied with Goodyear's extensive knowledge of the tire universe, they guarantee a fully integrated offer focused on the needs of fleet customers, complete the executive.

Besides the TPMS – Tire Pressure Monitoring System – Real-time Tire Pressure Monitoring System, the partnership includes geolocation of vehicles and odometer. To make this possible, TPMS sensors are installed in the vehicle and the data is collected and transmitted by the SCALAR EVO Pulse to the monitoring service, Goodyear TPMS PLUS. Additionally, if the customer has the EBS braking system, a huge dataset including, braking alerts, stability control, total load, health of the implement among others, they can also be processed through ZF's SCALAR orchestration platform.

Together, the companies tested the solution in operation and the results showed an increase in tire mileage performance of, on average by 13%, in addition to other indirect gains. Remote monitoring of tire conditions in trucks and trailers offers a number of advantages, since the increase in its lifespan, accident prevention, reduction in the total cost of transportation operations through fuel savings, with a consequent reduction in CO2 emissions. Geolocation, in turn, will bring more security to operations.

Market differentials

According to Maurício Paguaga, the package of solutions designed between the two companies, and that will be offered by Goodyear to the market, brings a series of differentiators for the segment in Brazil. Starting with Goodyear's active management, that will monitor alerts in real time and will contact the fleet operator whenever any action is needed.

Another advantage is related to the lifespan of the components used in the solution. The sensors from ZF, for example, have a minimum lifespan of six years, because they are developed with armored material, weather-resistant. "ZF has over a century of automotive engineering know-how". We bring this technical and quality knowledge to our products, it means that they are idealized and developed according to the rigorous needs of automotive applications, says Maurício Paguaga.

A differentiator lies in the independence of brands, models and technologies already existing in the vehicle, able to be applied to various configurations and combinations of tractor and trailer. Another benefit for the fleet operator is the internal battery installed in the ZF equipment, that allows information to continue being sent to the Goodyear Mobility Cloud portal for long periods, even if the truck is unhitched from the trailer.

"Goodyear conducted research in Brazil to validate the impact of technology and the preventive and corrective agenda on tire performance", with that, we found an average of 13% increase in mileage performance in the tires from the test of such research, in addition to ensuring that the tires ran with the correct pressure and temperature, positively impacting the preservation of the carcass and, consequently, increasing the life of the tire also after the retreading process, affirms Fernanda Baré, Senior Manager of Services & Solutions at Goodyear Brazil. "Observing the needs of the customers", Goodyear and ZF developed this value proposition – Goodyear TPMS PLUS, that allows customers to gain financial benefits and other indirect advantages. Furthermore, the solution reinforces the commitment to sustainability, theme increasingly central to modern logistics operations, finalizes the executive
