Shopee, in partnership with the Rede Mulher Empreendedora (RME), announces the launch of the Woman of the Year Shopee initiative – vendor edition. The goal is to recognize the talent, performance, and growth of Brazilian shop owners who stand out on the platform.
The registrations, open until July 31, are available for all women entrepreneurs who own and/or hold leadership positions in their stores on Shopee, with active sales in the last 6 months. The award ceremony will be held in November and will highlight 15 women in three categories: digital transformation, social impact, and performance.
Leila Carcagnoli, Category Leader at Shopee, emphasizes the importance of the marketplace as a tool to support female entrepreneurship, contributing to financial independence and the prominence of women in business. Ana Fontes, founder of RME, highlights the importance of the digital environment for entrepreneurs to promote products and services, regardless of the size of their businesses.
The evaluations will be conducted in three phases until November 2024, involving the analysis of applications by a committee of experts from Shopee and RME, as well as a panel of renowned judges. The winners will receive cash prizes and Shopee Ads to boost their brand presence and business on the platform.
According to a survey conducted by Shopee, more than 50% of merchants who have made sales in the last 12 months are women, with an average growth of 45% of new female sellers per year. The platform also points out that digitalization is an important tool for female entrepreneurship, allowing a balance between personal and professional life.
Shopee has over 3 million registered Brazilian sellers, with 90% of orders coming from local vendors. The company continuously invests in improvements, innovations, and the professional development of entrepreneurs, having trained over 500,000 through the Seller Education Center.
