Schneider Electric lists 3 cybersecurity tips for data centers

Aiming to strengthen protection against cyber threats, theSchneider Electric, a global company in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, lists three fundamental tips to ensure the robustness of data center infrastructure systems:

  1. System updates: keeping all systems, software, and hardware devices up to date is a fundamental pillar of cybersecurity. This practice not only fixes recent vulnerabilities but also improves the overall system security, in addition to contributing to resistance against cyber threats, thus ensuring access to new security features developed by programmers;
  2. Network segmentation:By dividing the network into isolated segments, each dedicated to specific functions, it is possible to restrict access only to the necessary areas. In the event of a compromise of a part of the network, propagation to other areas is significantly reduced, facilitating early detection and efficient response to potential attacks;
  3. Access policies and ongoing training:Many serious security breaches originate from careless actions by employees, such as clicking on unknown links or using weak passwords. By raising employees' awareness of the risks of these simple actions and providing continuous and assertive training, organizations can strengthen the first line of defense against internal threats. Implementing access policies based on the principle of "least privilege" ensures that each user has access only to what is essential for their responsibilities, reducing unnecessary exposures.

According to the latest report from Kaspersky, a technology company specializing in the production of security software, Brazil registered 603,000 attempted ransomware attacks over the last 12 months, which puts it in the lead among the most attacked countries in Latin America and in fourth place in the global ranking.

For Davi Lopes, Director of Distribution, Inside Sales, and Digital Transformation at Schneider Electric, security in data centers is quite important in Brazil for the success of companies. "Threats are always present, and a security breach, whether due to an operational or human error, can be costly financially and even cause dangerous damage to the company's reputation," he warns.

Lopes highlights that, in addition to the specific security challenges, corporations face obstacles related to regulatory compliance and risk management. "With more stringent data protection laws, such as the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) in Europe and the LGPD (General Data Protection Law) in Brazil, organizations need to ensure they are in compliance with the relevant regulations and adequately protecting the data of customers and employees," he explains.

In Lopes's opinion, the combination of regular updates, network segmentation, and well-defined access policies can assist in system resilience, reducing the risk of breaches and ensuring the integrity of critical operations. "Through these practices, companies can face contemporary challenges and maintain the security of their data center operations," he concludes.
