Santander and Getnet launch Pix via Proximity

Santander and Getnet, technology company for payment methods of PagoNxt, of the Santander Group, they announce the launch of Pix by Proximity through Google Pay. The new feature allows customers to make payments even more quickly and securely from Google Wallet, just by bringing your mobile devices close to the enabled machines

Since its launch, in 2020, Pix has established itself as the preferred payment method for Brazilians. According to the Central Bank, in the first six months of 2024, the number of transactions via Pix surpassed 29 billion, representing a growth of 61% compared to the same period of the previous year. This advancement shows the strength of the system, that has already surpassed traditional methods such as credit and debit cards, that added up to 24,2 billion transactions in the same comparison period. More and more, Pix is established as the most used payment method in Brazil

With Pix by Proximity, individual clients of Santander will be able to make transactions automatically just by bringing their phone close to the card reader, using Google Wallet, without the need to open the bank app or scan QR Codes. On the other hand, legal entities clients of Getnet will be able to offer this new payment solution on their machines, adding more ease, practicality and safety to the consumer experience. Near Field Communication (NFC) technology ensures advanced security through encryption and biometric authentication, protecting user data

Furthermore, the agility in transactions will ensure faster service and a smoother shopping experience, aligning with the growing demand for innovative and simplified solutions.The rollout for Santander customers will be carried out in groups, with an expected completion by mid-March. 

According to Izabella Belisário, director of payments and individual services at Santander, the new feature reinforces Santander's commitment to providing payment solutions that combine innovation, convenience and security, always focused on improving the customer experience

Already for Mayra Borges, Vice President of Business at Getnet, this innovation represents an important step in the evolution of digital payments in Brazil. "This technology applied to Pix not only makes the customer's daily life easier, but it also brings a standardization and significant improvement in our consumer's experience. This means that, "Any user with access to an Android device with NFC will be able to pay with Pix by proximity on Getnet machines with the same payment experience they already have with the card", affirms the executive
