PIX gains ground in Valentine's Day shopping, but spending intention is low

Valentine's Day should be celebrated more economically this year, according to a survey conducted by the fintech.myallwith 15,613 participants from all over the country. A few days before the date, only 11% of respondents stated that they plan to buy gifts for their partner, while 8% are still undecided.

The survey reveals a cautious spending scenario. Among those planning to give gifts, 47% intend to spend up to R$ 50. Another 12% are expected to spend up to R$ 100, and only 10% estimate expenses between R$ 100 and R$ 200. A significant portion, 30%, intends to spend more than R$ 200 — which indicates that, although the average expenditure is low, there are still those who opt for higher-value gifts.

Regarding the type of gift, the scenario is still uncertain: 37% of respondents who plan to buy have not yet decided what they will give. Among those who have already chosen, perfumes and cosmetics lead with 18%, followed by clothing and accessories (16%). Experiences, such as dinners for two, are the choice of 7%. Items such as electronics and gift cards were also mentioned, but they represent a smaller share.

"The data shows that consumers are more attentive to how they use their money. Planning appears as a prominent feature this Valentine's Day, with choices guided both by the value and the meaning of the gift," says Márcio Feitoza, CEO of meutudo.

At the time of purchase, the preference still falls on physical stores, chosen by 45% of consumers. Online commerce ranks second, with 23%. Still, 31% of respondents are undecided about where to make the purchase, which reinforces the idea that many are still evaluating their options.

Regarding payment methods, PIX leads with 45% of preferences. The credit card appears next, with 12%, followed by cash (10%) and debit card (7%).

The popularity of PIX, according to Feitoza, reflects the advancement of digital payment methods in the country, especially on special dates. "The growth of PIX usage in these occasions shows how quickly Brazilian consumers have adopted digital solutions. Besides convenience, it fits well with one-time purchases, such as on special dates, without compromising the long-term budget," he adds.
