A survey conducted by MaisMei revealed that Pix is the most widely used transaction method among individual micro-entrepreneurs (MEIs), being the primary means for about 60% of respondents. Recently, the tool has become an even more important ally for the financial organization of micro-entrepreneurs through Automatic Pix. Created by the Central Bank to replace bank slips and automatic debits, it is used for recurring payments, such as electricity, water, supplier bills, and even monthly services. For MEIs, Automatic Pix serves as an aid for those with greater difficulty managing their income: organizing payments, reducing delays, and improving cash flow predictability.
“The idea emerged to provide greater convenience for both the consumer and the micro-entrepreneur, but in the latter case, Automatic Pix plays an even more important role because, historically, we have observed a scenario where many small entrepreneurs face difficulties in keeping their accounts up to date. And this, depending on the case, can lead to significant financial losses due to late payment penalties,” explains Kályta Caetano, an MEI specialist accountant at MaisMei, who assists micro-entrepreneurs with management through a SuperApp .
Another advantage, for the MEI themselves, is the guarantee that their clients will pay on time. “The money is deposited into the account monthly, on the agreed date. Especially for those who work with services and typically have recurring demands, this functionality has provided greater security for the micro-entrepreneur,” emphasizes Kályta Caetano.
Among practical examples are MEIs who work as hairdressers and offer weekly packages or monthly housekeepers who use this taxation regime. .
The process for adopting Automatic Pix is simple, requiring only that the MEI request it from the client, who then authorizes it through their bank's app. It is possible to set a maximum amount per transaction, ensuring greater control over what goes in and out of the account. Based on these settings, payments occur automatically without needing to repeat the process.
Is Automatic Pix suitable for MEI taxes?
Although this new functionality has become a major advancement for individual micro-entrepreneur management, it does not allow the MEI's CNPJ holder to make automated recurring payments for the monthly contribution slip (DAS), one of the most important obligations under this taxation model. “Automatic Pix only works between individuals, requiring authorization from either the payer or the receiver. In the case of DAS, it is important to remember that it is a regulated tax, with a new slip issued every month. For this reason, the Government does not accept Automatic Pix, as it is not a contractual recurring payment, like a service subscription, for example,” explains the MaisMei accountant.
Kályta notes, however, that this is a possibility for the future. “The Central Bank has already stated that public agencies may adopt Automatic Pix in the future, but this depends exclusively on regulation by the Government itself. Therefore, there is no forecast,” she recalls.
For those who wish to facilitate compliance with this obligation and avoid delays in DAS payments, MaisMei itself offers, on its SuperApp, the automation of a large part of this process: in addition to automatic reminders, the MEI can generate DAS without needing to access the official Government portal every month. In cases of delays and possible irregularities, there is also the free tool “Diagnóstico MEI”, for the automatic consultation of all existing pending issues on the CNPJ with just one click. The company also provides assistance with regularization.
