A survey conducted by MaisMei revealed that Pix is the most used transaction method by individual micro-entrepreneurs (MEI), being the main means for about 60% of respondents. Recently, the tool has become an even more important ally for the financial organization of micro-entrepreneurs, through Pix Automático. Created by the Central Bank to replace bank slips and automatic debits, it is used for recurring payments, such as electricity, water, suppliers and even monthly services. In the case of MEIs, Pix Automático serves as an aid for those who have greater difficulty managing their income: organizing payments, reducing delays and improving the predictability of cash flow.
“The idea arose to provide greater convenience to both consumers and micro-entrepreneurs, but for the latter, Pix Automático plays an even more important role because, historically, we have observed a scenario in which many small entrepreneurs face difficulties in keeping up with their accounts. And this, depending on the case, can generate significant financial losses due to late payment penalties,” explains Kályta Caetano, an accountant specializing in MEI (Individual Micro-entrepreneur) at MaisMei, which assists micro-entrepreneurs with management through a SuperApp .
Another advantage, for the MEI (Individual Microentrepreneur) themselves, is the guarantee that their clients will pay on time. “The money is deposited into the monthly account on the agreed date. Especially for those who work with services and typically have recurring demands, this feature has offered greater security to the microentrepreneur,” emphasizes Kályta Caetano.
Practical examples include self-employed individuals (MEI) who work as hairdressers and offer weekly packages, or monthly day laborers who use this tax regime.
The process of signing up for Automatic Pix is simple; the MEI (Individual Microentrepreneur) only needs to request it from the client, and the client authorizes it through their bank's app. It's possible to set a maximum transaction amount, ensuring greater control over what goes in and out of the account. Once these settings are established, payments happen automatically, without needing to repeat the process.
Does Pix Automático work for MEI taxes?
Although this new feature has become a major advancement for the management of individual micro-entrepreneurs, it does not allow the person responsible for the MEI CNPJ (Brazilian Individual Micro-entrepreneur Taxpayer Registry) to make automated recurring payments of the monthly contribution slip (DAS), one of the most important obligations for this type of taxation. “Automatic Pix only works between private individuals, requiring authorization from the payer or recipient. In the case of the DAS, it's important to remember that it's a regulated tax, with a new payment slip every month. For this reason, the government does not accept Automatic Pix payments, as it is not a recurring contractual payment, like a service subscription, for example,” explains the accountant from MaisMei.
Kályta points out, however, that this is a possibility for the future. "The Central Bank has already stated that public bodies may adopt the Automatic Pix system in the future, but this depends exclusively on regulation by the Government itself. Therefore, there is no set date," she notes.
For those who wish to facilitate compliance with this obligation and avoid delays in DAS payments, MaisMei itself offers, in its SuperApp , the automation of a large part of this process: in addition to automatic reminders, the MEI (Individual Microentrepreneur) can generate DAS without having to access the official government portal every month. In cases of delays and possible irregularities, there is also the free "MEI Diagnosis" , for automatic consultation of all existing CNPJ (National Registry of Legal Entities) pending issues with just one click. The company also offers assistance in regularization.
