The annual research, State of Search Brasil 5 Hedgehog Digital, an agency specialized in SEO, revealed that 62% of quick searches made on smartphones are to resolve everyday doubts.
The study received responses from more than 4,000 people and showed a similar percentage to that seen in last year's survey, which, when asked about the same question, obtained 63% of responses in “searching for questions that arise in everyday life”.
With 21% of the responses, the survey showed that people use the smartphone/tablet search engine to learn a new skill or knowledge. In general, the results presented for the question "what type of research do you conduct on your smartphone/tablet" were:
- Quick, about questions that arise in everyday life – 62%
- To learn a new skill/knowledge – 21%
- Schoolchildren/Academics – 9%
- To learn more about a certain phenomenon – 6%
- Others – 2%
Among those interviewed, searches made via smartphone/tablet by text dominated with 88%, while by image, either by attaching or taking a photo with 13% and by voice, with a drop, compared to the previous study, with 13%.
Furthermore, State of Search Brazil 5 interviewees reported greater use of smartphones and tablets in their daily lives.
Among people over 50 years old, 68% believe that there has been an increase in use, while young people aged between 16 and 24 years old have seen a 50% increase in the use of cell phones in their daily lives.
The present and future of search
State of Search Brasil 5 also asked Brazilians about the quantity, quality and ease of searches they carried out in the last 12 months and what they believe it will be like in the coming year.
The result showed that 6 out of 10 people believe they will do more qualified searches and 67% believe it will be easier to search for what they need, believing in a general evolution in the results that search engines will present.
With this, we can predict that the general public expects to do even more searches using their smartphones and believes that search engines will continue to evolve, providing answers in line with what they are looking for.
