Betterfly Research Reveals Salary Is the Factor That Has the Least Impact on Employee Engagement in Companies

A recent study conducted by Betterfly in partnership with Critéria reveals that, while salary is a relevant component, it is the factor that least influences employee engagement in companies. The research highlights the importance of other factors, such as organizational climate and benefits, in employee engagement.

In Brazil, organizational climate and benefits are the main factors explaining employee engagement, accounting for 24% and 23%, respectively. Purpose and culture follow closely behind, with 22% and 18%. Economic well-being, despite being a key driver, ranks last in the motivation rankings, with only 13%.

The study also ranks Brazil as the Latin American country most likely to offer benefits to its employees. While the average benefit score in Latin America is 76, Brazil stands out with 86. The survey also reveals a gender disparity, with men receiving more benefits than women (87 vs. 85).

Analysis by age group shows that generations Y and Z have 89 points in benefits, while generation X and baby boomers have 82. Regionally, the Southeast leads with 91 points, followed by the South (89), Central-West (86) and Northeast (83).

The most common types of benefits include:

  • Protection (50%): Life insurance, health insurance, etc.
  • Professional development (44%): Courses and incentives for postgraduate studies and specializations.
  • Flexibility (42%): Work-life balance.
  • Recognition (38%): Awards and bonuses.
  • Physical well-being (32%): Access to gyms.
  • Mental Wellbeing (30%): Therapy support.
  • Adequate remuneration (23%).

The survey also identified the benefits that employees would like to receive:

  • 26% want better pay.
  • 19% prefer protection benefits (insurance).
  • 16% value flexibility, with 18% being more important for women.
  • 14% want incentives for mental health.
  • 10% seek recognition in the workplace.
  • 9% want professional development.
  • 6% prefer benefits related to physical health.

Roberta Ferreira, Global Director of Brand Experience at Betterfly, emphasizes the importance of balancing these metrics: "Financial security and flexibility are crucial to driving engagement and are attractive to employees. However, most still want to receive a fair salary for the work they do."

The research makes it clear that while benefits are essential for employee engagement, fair compensation remains a prevalent desire. Understanding and balancing these factors is crucial to attracting and retaining talent in companies, transforming the way Human Resources develops its strategies.

This Betterfly research offers valuable insights for companies looking to improve employee engagement and satisfaction, highlighting the need for a holistic and balanced approach.
