During Road Traffic Accident Awareness Month, iFood presents the results of a year of strategic actions with Vision Zero, its dedicated road safety department. Among the main achievements is a 20% increase in deliveries made within the speed limit, resulting from the use of advanced technology and personalized incentives that promote responsible driving.
The creation of Vision Zero reinforces iFood's commitment to minimizing risks in urban travel. As part of this effort, the company considers speeding one of the most concerning factors for fatalities and serious traffic accidents. To address this problem, iFood implemented the "Safe Direction Indicator," a tool that monitors the speeds practiced during deliveries in relation to the legal limits of each road.
Based on telemetry data, personalized communications, and strategies inspired by international models, 95,000 delivery workers were impacted by actions that improved their conduct in traffic. Varying between different stimuli and profiles, actions were conducted that utilize: motivational and educational messages about the dangers of specific routes; bonuses for delivery personnel who maintained safe driving in all deliveries; and in-person and online training through the Decola Safety platform. All of them had positive results.
The results show a significant progress not only in the adoption of safer behaviors but also in the use of data to contribute to public policies. In Brazil, traffic still represents a significant challenge for road safety, with thousands of lives lost every year. Our delivery drivers face these risks daily, and therefore, our initiatives are not limited to safety during deliveries. They also generate valuable data that can contribute to public policies aimed at making travel safer for everyone, says Rafael Tartaroti, iFood's Road Safety Manager.
Expansion of Vision Zero and New Features
Based on the successes achieved this year, iFood will expand security initiatives for all delivery drivers on the platform in Brazil. The idea is to integrate Safe Driving into the daily lives of motorcyclists, increasingly encouraging responsible behavior practices.
The news includes the development of additional risk monitoring, identifying unsafe maneuvers such as sudden accelerations and braking, and dangerous curves. Furthermore, iFood is exploring ways to map possible unauthorized traffic light crossings. These indicators will be part of the new phase of Vision Zero and will be available on iFood's Safety Center, where delivery drivers can monitor their performance, access courses, receive alerts, and earn bonuses for adhering to good traffic practices.
"The results demonstrate that it is possible to combine logistical efficiency with safer traffic. The 20% increase in deliveries within speed limits confirms that technology, education, and financial incentives can transform urban mobility. Companies, public authorities, and society need to work together to ensure traffic where everyone can circulate safely," concludes Tartaroti.
