iArremate reveals the top ten most-traded artists in a decade of art auctions

The art auction portal iArremate, which completes ten years of operation in the Brazilian market, released an unprecedented survey of artists with greater consistency in their trading sessions during the last decade. The platform, considered a reference in the online auction sector of modern and contemporary art in Brazil, used data from thousands of transactions to identify the names that aroused continuous interest of collectors.

“We are not talking about value, the price of works. The list takes into account the offer of works by these artists and the amount of bids received at auctions. In a market such as art, which is marked by oscillations and trends, an artist staying ten years in evidence shows constant interest in his work”, explains Flor Pimentel, Marketing Director of iArremate.

The ten most consistent artists in the last decade

The uprising is headed by cearense Aldemir Martins (1922-2006), recognized for his exceptional talent as a colorist and for his figurative work that portrays animals, still lifes and northeastern themes.

Secondly, it appears Abraham Palatnik (1928-2020), potiguar considered a pioneer of brazilian kinetic art, followed by Alfredo Volpi (1896-1988), the brazilian naturalized italian famous for its emblematic flags and the masterful use of colors.

Completing the top five are the Pernambuco Cicero Dias (1907-2003), with his work of surrealist inspiration developed between Brazil and France, and Antonio Poteiro (1925-2010), Portuguese living in Brazil who stood out as one of the greatest representatives of brazilian naif art, acting as a painter, sculptor and ceramist.

The second half of the list includes Candido Portinari (1903-1962), one of the most important brazilian painters, known for his approach to social issues; Manabu Mabe (1924-1997), a Japanese who immigrated to Brazil and became an exponent of national abstract art; Carybe (1911-1997), an Argentine who lived in Salvador and stood out for the representation of afro-brazilian themes, especially the candomble; Sergio Telles's (1936-2022), a Rio artist who developed her artistic career in parallel to diplomacy; and Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994), celebrated landscape architect who also left an important legacy in the fine arts.

“These ten artists practically never go off the radar of collectors. There are always works of them at auctions and there are always interested in getting them”, notes Pimentel.

Relevance of the survey to the market

As a leader in the segment, iArremate offers a privileged window into the behavior of the Brazilian art market. The platform allows users to bid in real time at auctions throughout the country, consolidating valuable data on preferences and trends.

The survey gains even more relevance because it covers a period of significant economic and cultural transformations in Brazil, demonstrating which artists managed to maintain their relevance even in times of instability.

For collectors and art investors, the list offers information on names that have demonstrated market consistency over time. For those interested in learning more about the career and production of these and hundreds of other artists, the iArremate website provides detailed information.

The publication of this ranking coincides with the celebrations of the tenth anniversary of the platform, which has consolidated itself as an important channel for democratizing access to the art market in the country.
