By analyzing the main recent cybersecurity trends and guiding the actions that CISOs should take to enable a safe journey of generative artificial intelligence in their organizations, experts who participated in the Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit, an event that took place in Sydney, Australia, drew attention to the fact that this new technology will require additional care and the development of new cybersecurity capabilities, which could result in an increase of up to 15% in the volume of investments in cybersecurity.
Speaking on the topic, Gartner Senior Director Analyst Richard Addiscott explained that CISOs must update application and data security practices to integrate new attack surfaces, such as prompts or orchestration layers, to instrument AI models.
For Fernando Guimarães, Head of Stone Age, the credit and anti-fraud business vertical at TIVIT, the estimate may be conservative as, in addition to the need to protect applications that work with generative AI, there is a trend that increasingly generative AI will be integrated into tools to combat fraudsters. The benefits of Generative AI are undeniable and have enormous growth potential; however, such benefits must be accompanied by cybersecurity precautions and investments."The net result will be very positive in most cases, but there is no such thing as a free lunch," says Guimarães.
He comments that this move was carried out by Stone Age itself with the incorporation of the generative artificial intelligence solution Athena, developed by TIVIT in its solutions. At the beginning of 2024, the technology was introduced as a new feature within Identify, a product focused on identity verification for onboarding and sales processes.
Launched in December of last year by TIVIT, Athena allows Identify to perform, among other things, intelligent reading of a social contract's data automatically in 30 seconds. Furthermore, extract structured information from these documents, which immediately transforms into collaborative insights to feed the data pipeline that enables more effective and faster decision-making.
Guimarães comments that the adoption of Athena provides Identify with new functionalities that make the user experience much more complete. In practice, according to him, the company now has a version 2.0 that can advance towards operational efficiency, with reduced manual intervention, increased decision accuracy, and also works on cost reduction, making it feasible to operate with smaller customer service and analysis teams.
“I believe that this type of gain can be disseminated across several other solutions on the market. Therefore, considering the benefits that Generative AI brings to cybersecurity, increased investment to increase the use of this technology becomes fully justifiable,” he concludes.
An alternative for using AI more safely is to utilize solutions that are customizable to the company's needs. According to Daniel Galante, CCO and CPO of TIVIT, AI came to make processes and companies more agile; however, it must be used very accurately. "Imagine a large law firm that serves important clients, where all lawyers input client and case data in a 100% open environment that could become public. This could cause a major problem by exposing this data to the general public. An alternative is to use a customizable Generative AI, such as Athena, where the client can select the query bases, make all data accessible only in predetermined locations, and restrict access to those who truly need it. This is the best way to utilize AI, providing the agility it offers while ensuring the necessary security for such a process," affirms Galante.
