AI with crowdsourcing accelerates value creation in digital services, according to an international study.

A study published in May 2025 in the International Journal of Production Economics (Elsevier) concludes that crowdsourcing-enabled artificial intelligence (AI) tools, where data is collected from many participants, generate measurable value in digital services. The work shows gains in customer relationships, operations, and product and service development. In environments of high “tech turbulence,” expert participation becomes critical to maximizing this value.

The study analyzed companies from multiple sectors through a cross-sector survey and concluded that integrating large volumes of data with qualified data increases the accuracy of decisions and reduces noise. According to the authors, there is no mandatory trade-off between collective and specialized data: both complement each other to generate more reliable insights and faster strategic actions.

The concept also applies to the education sector, where student-tutor interactions, questions, classes, essays, and feedback can be transformed into actionable data to improve service, content, and pedagogical decisions. Digital platforms consolidate these interactions into clear reports for managers and educators, translating collective intelligence into action.

In this context, TutorMundi, an online tutoring and question-and-answer platform, recorded 21,936 hours of private lessons and over 325,000 consultations between January and August 2025, using AI behind the scenes to organize workflows, prioritize demands, and support essay correction. Reports delivered to schools show student engagement, the most frequent questions by subject, and topics requiring curriculum reinforcement. The three most sought-after subjects by students were Mathematics (69,534 consultations), Physics (64,586), and Biology (60,766), highlighting areas that demand greater pedagogical attention.

“High-volume data, combined with qualified data, generates more value. In education, this means using what students ask and what tutors observe to improve the service in real time,” says Rapha Coe, CEO of TutorMundi.

The study shows that combining collective and specialized data accelerates value creation in digital services. Companies and platforms that adopt this approach can transform large volumes of data into more accurate, faster decisions with a greater impact on customers, regardless of the sector.
