The richness of Brazilian culture and the possibilities that the soil and climate in Brazil offer for wine production result in a unique essence with the potential for growth of national wine. The production of artisanal wines is Grupo Wine's strategy to expand its growth in 2024. In May of this year, the company launched the Metropolitano line on the market, with wines produced in Chile. For the Entre Dois Mundos winery project, the company partnered with Miolo, bringing all its expertise, sophistication, and tradition, as well as high agricultural and productive capacity in Brazilian soil.A heavyweight partnership that unites, once again, two worlds.
The brand Entre Dois Mundos takes on a strategic role in the Cantu Grupo Wine portfolio, which has over 20 years of experience in the wine world and exclusively represents in Brazil a select group of 40 brands from various countries, including Susana Balbo, Ramón Bilbao, Yellow Tail, and Albert Bichot.Entre Dois Mundos marks the first Brazilian wine and sparkling wine in the Cantu Grupo Wine portfolio. There are two lines: Maraví, of sparkling wines, and Kaipú, of wines, which total seven labels, two different production locations and a mix of wines that allows the consumer to enjoy different experiences and pairings, from lunch to dinner, from the beach to the pool with friends, from feijoada to barbecue.
On one side, the Maraví line features three festive sparkling wines – Brut, Brut Rosé, and Muscat – produced at Vinícola Terranova, by Miolo, located in the lush São Francisco Valley, in Bahia. The sparkling wines convey the vibrant energy and the unique terroir of this tropical region. Maraví is a sparkling wine born in the hinterland with a festive soul.
The Kaipú line is composed of four wines – white (chardonnay), rosé, cabernet sauvignon, and tannat. Produced at Vinícola Almadén in Santana do Livramento, in the Campanha Gaúcha region of Rio Grande do Sul, these wines are the result of a careful selection of grapes grown in soil that is as rich and complex as the history and culture they represent.Everyone goes through barrel aging, a differentiator in the Brazilian market for cost-benefit wines, which enhances the final consumer experience. The Kaipú line represents a journey into the unknown.
The Entre Dois Mundos labels can be found in over 15,000 points of sale where Cantu Grupo Wine operates across the country, including supermarkets, wine shops, and restaurants. In search of the perfect production
Choosing the best production sites involved extensive research and travel, which began in 2021 with a Wine Group expedition led by German andAlberto Pedrajo Perez, Winemaker and WineHunter of the Wine GroupThe Spanish Alberto Pedrajo has already produced wines in several countries, having a deep knowledge of the different specifics according to the climate, soil, and production culture. Additionally, he has collaborated with over 80 wineries in various renowned international wine regions.
“We visited several cities and vineyards, analyzing the Brazilian wine scene. Brazil has unique characteristics, with its own challenges, from the climate and soil type to the production chain of graphic items, metals and glass for labels and packaging. With this launch, Grupo Wine and Cantu Grupo Wine seek to create a bridge between the old and new world of wine, between established winemaking traditions and innovative approaches that respect and value the Brazilian terroir. This project is a tribute to Brazil’s diversity and ability to produce wines that are on par with the best in the world,” says Pedrajo.
The entire area where the production structure of Entre Dois Mundos is installed belongs to Miolo and the collaboration of Alberto Pedrajo Perez ensures that the team from both wineries is constantly guided to guarantee the quality and expected wine profile.
“With the co-creation of the Kaipú and Maraví lines, together with Grupo Wine, we are taking another innovative step in our history of passion for the fascinating world of wine. With more than 1,000 hectares planted, Miolo is the largest owner of fine grape vineyards in Brazil and is the largest wine exporter in Brazil”, he reinforces.Adriano Miolo, managing director of Miolo.
Sustainability in vineyards
The winery Entre Dois Mundos has adopted precision viticulture practices since its first production to ensure the sustainability and quality of its vineyards. Mapping and stratification of the soils are carried out, aiming at the use of fertilizers and soil amendments adjusted to the needs of each plot of land. Additionally, soil analyses are conducted twice a year in the region with the aim of correcting their nutrients.
It is worth noting that chemical fertilization is partially replaced by organic fertilization, produced from winemaking residues, and natural phosphates are used in the establishment of new vineyards. In this way, grape production reuses materials and implements alternative cultivation, such as legumes in summer and cover crops in winter, to restructure the soil and recycle nutrients. The native vegetation between the vineyard rows is preserved, helping to prevent erosion, recycle nutrients, and naturally fix nitrogen.
Furthermore, sustainable practices are strictly followed by the vineyard team, who use only registered phytosanitary products and biological products for pest and disease control, reducing the use of chemical molecules. Continuous waste monitoring is carried out to control the maximum limits.
The winery also dedicates itself to preserving heritage, such as the Paleo Tiger Cave, and is building an artesian well to monitor the water quality of the Guarani Aquifer. More than 30% of the vineyard area is maintained as a Permanent Preservation Area (APP), where more than 30 native species of animals from the Pampa biome have been cataloged.
“Entre Dois Mundos is not just a name, it is our philosophy. It is our way of producing wine, with a lot of passion, dedication and innovation. We combine Brazilian culture and the world wine culture. We combine market knowledge and the highest quality of production. We combine the market’s availability to receive high quality products and our ability to produce and distribute them throughout the country. The interface of some worlds is present in the bottles of Kaipú and Maraví and this is something that buyers and consumers will taste and toast”, concludes German.
