Brazilian individual micro-entrepreneurs (MEI) have until May 31st to submit the Annual MEI Declaration (DASN-SIMEI), a mandatory document for entrepreneurs to report their income and keep their business in good standing with the Federal Revenue Service. Although the declaration can be made free of charge on the Simples Nacional Portal, the process has generated many doubts among micro-entrepreneurs, which has increased the demand for digital tools to assist in filling out the information.MaisMei app data indicates that searches for digital solutions for submitting declarations increased significantly in the first two weeks of May, reflecting the growing demand for technology use to simplify the bureaucracies of micro-entrepreneurs.So far, MaisMei has conducted approximately 490,000 DASN.
"It is very common for small entrepreneurs to face doubts about the correct places to insert each piece of information, revenue limits, among others. It is also common for many to leave it until the last minute, and this scenario can become complicated in case of inconsistencies in the data, which we are able to detect and assist the user with simply," says Mateus Vicente, CEO and co-founder of MaisMei. According to him, through the use of the app, the time required to send the DASN has decreased to an average of five minutes, facilitating the MEI's compliance with tax obligations.
According to a survey conducted by MaisMei, currently, when micro-entrepreneurs seek specialized digital support, most of the demands are related to tax declaration (53.22%), followed by invoice issuance (22.63%). 5,640 micro-entrepreneurs registered on the company's app were interviewed – aimed at assisting and performing these and other MEI management tasks.
Kályta Caetano, head of Accounting at MaisMei, believes it is normal for managers less familiar with bureaucratic tasks to make some mistakes. "The MEI regime was created to simplify taxation and reduce costs, but still, it is common to have questions about revenue limits, submitting the DASN, and other obligations that, if not fulfilled, can result in fines, loss of benefits, or even the cancellation of the CNPJ," he explains.
Legal implications
If a Microentrepreneur Individual does not submit the Annual Declaration of the Simples Nacional, they will be subject to certain penalties and restrictions. They are:
- Multa: A entrega fora do prazo sujeita o contribuinte à multa de 2% ao mês de atraso, limitada a 20% sobre o valor total dos tributos declarados, ou mínimo de R$ 50. The fine is automatically issued after the declaration is submitted.
- Restrictions and impediments: The MEI in an irregular situation with the Federal Revenue may face restrictions such as not issuing invoices, difficulties obtaining negative debt certificates, participating in public bids, obtaining loans, among others.
In addition to paying fines and other penalties imposed by the Federal Revenue Service, there is a risk that the CNPJ will be deregistered (canceled) after two years without submitting the declaration and paying the monthly contribution guide (DAS). Consequently, the responsible person may lose social security benefits and others, such as temporary incapacity assistance, recalls the head of Accounting at MaisMei.
The submission of the MEI Annual Declaration is done online and free of charge through the Simples Nacional Portal. The platform guides the user through a step-by-step process. Through the MaisMei app, it is possible to make the declaration in an optimized and secure way. Just fill out a form with your business information and wait for the team of specialists to send the proof of submission.
