Amazon Expands Physical Retail with Revolutionary Megalogy in the US

Amazon is stepping up its physical retail presence with the announcement of its largest store ever built in the United States.Located in Orland Park, Illinois, the new, approximately 21 thousand square meter megastore represents a significant investment by the e-commerce giant in physical establishments, seeking to further integrate online and offline shopping experiences.

A New Concept of Physical Store

The future Amazon megastore in Orland Park, Illinois, is designed to meet current consumer demands. Half of the vast space will be dedicated to selling a wide range of food and general merchandise.The other half will be strategically used for picking and fulfilling orders, both online and directly in the physical store.

Digital Integration and Physics

Although the official name and full details of the new concept have not yet been released by Amazon, the presentation of the project to local authorities revealed an ambitious plan.The store will allow customers to place orders through kiosks within the establishment and remove their items while making other purchases, such as those from supermarkets.

Long-Term Retail Strategy

This initiative comes at a time when Amazon seeks to consolidate its success in the digital world in physical retail. Despite having closed several physical operations in recent years, such as some Amazon Go stores and the Amazon Books brand, the company has been working to reshape and improve its supermarket chains, such as Amazon Fresh, which is a more affordable version of the Whole Foods network, acquired in 2017. Analysts see this new bet on large format stores as a move more aligned to the scale of Amazon's online retail, with the potential to leverage data from the Amazon Prime program to customize offers and stocks based on the preferences of local subscribers.
