On July 26th, the world will be watching closely for the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. The event, which brings together athletes of different nationalities and sports disciplines, is a showcase of values and lessons that can be applied in various areas of life, including the business world.
With that in mind, Beatriz Ambrosio, CEO and founder of Mention, the first Public Relations startup in Latin America, has outlined 5 lessons that the Olympics and sports can offer to executives.
- Strategy
Just like in a sports match, where each move is carefully planned to achieve victory, companies need to develop an action plan that allows them to reach their goals. "Strategy is essential to guide efforts, optimize resources, and surpass the competition. Without clear planning, both athletes and companies can lose focus and direction, compromising performance," explains Ambrosio.
- Collaboration
A well-integrated team, where each member knows their role and works in harmony with others, tends to achieve better results. Similarly, corporations that encourage collaboration among employees promote a healthier and more motivating work environment. Team unity can lead to innovation, quick problem-solving, and strengthening team spirit.
- Leadership
Great athletes are examples of leadership and demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges. In the market, this aspect is fundamental to guide, stimulate creativity, and ensure the progress of the business. Effective leaders are able to motivate people and achieve ambitious goals. "Just like a captain on the field, a good leader knows when to delegate, support, and make strategic decisions," he comments.
- Diversity
The Olympics bring together athletes from different cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds. This diversity enriches competitions and provides new perspectives. Similarly, organizations that value diversity tend to be more innovative because they leverage the potential of their talents. "Inclusion in the workplace can lead to fruitful solutions and a broader understanding of the global market," says Ambrosio.
This year, the Brazilian deletion will have more women than men for the first time in history. There are a total of 277 athletes, with 153 women and 124 men. Thus, 55% are female athletes, a higher number than at the Tokyo Olympics, when they represented 47%.
- Responsibility
The athletes are examples of discipline and commitment, dedicating themselves intensely to training and competitions. In the business world, responsibility is essential to build a solid brand and earn the trust of partners. Conscious companies are those that fulfill their promises, act ethically, and are committed to the quality of services and customer satisfaction.
“By incorporating these lessons from sport, brands can strengthen their organizational culture, increase their competitiveness and achieve lasting success. Strategy, collaboration, leadership, diversity and responsibility are essential pillars for both athletes and entrepreneurs seeking to be a reference in their respective segments,” he concludes.
