WhatsApp channels become new job hub

While the previous scenario involved printing many resumes, dressing nicely, and going door-to-door to deliver the document in the hope of securing a job, this has changed.

The vast majority of large companies concentrate their opportunities in HR agencies, and these open their applications online. In other words, the act of ‘job hunting’ can now happen at home in your pajamas.

In this new reality, one of the ways HR departments are finding to advertise their vacancies, in addition to social media, is WhatsApp. The so-called ‘Channels’ are already proving to be drivers of this outreach.

Karina Pelanda, Recruitment and Selection Manager at RH NOSSA, one of the largest companies in the segment in Brazil, explains that with the spread of social media and the increased online connectivity, many positions remain unfilled simply because people don’t know they exist:

“We are always looking to inform people about available job openings. Meanwhile, the WhatsApp Jobs Channel reaches people through a network present on 100% of Brazilians’ cell phones.”

The manager reports that since its implementation, the company’s job channel on the messaging app has seen a significant increase in registrations, thus generating the possibility of professional reallocation;

“Our channel, for example, advertises our opportunities with direct links to apply. There’s no need to install a new app—you receive the job notification, access the link, and apply. The process has been greatly simplified,” concludes Pelanda.

According to data released by the research We Are Social e Meltwater in 2024, the app became the most-used social network in Brazil. The research shows that 93.4% of Brazilian internet users aged 16 to 64 use WhatsApp, equivalent to 169 million users.
