Transportation companies linked to e-commerce are facing an unprecedented wave of online scams perpetrated by cybercriminals who are appropriating the companies' images to demand payment for unnecessary extra fees, falsely claim nonexistent sales, and redirect users to unsafe links.
Criminals use email, WhatsApp messages, social media, and fake websites to deceive consumers, mimicking official company communications, including improperly using the shipping company logo.
"Criminals use fake official emails or text messages to carry out phishing scams, tricking users into downloading files or clicking links to steal data or even demand payment for nonexistent extra fees on package deliveries," explains Bruno Tortorello, CEO of Jadlog Logística, one of the largest freight and e-commerce carriers in the country.
In another method, cybercriminals create advertisements for virtual auctions of smartphones or other electronic devices at seemingly affordable prices, purportedly promoted by carriers on news websites to lend credibility to the scam.
Fake job postings, cloned websites offering supposed carrier services, and fraudulent contracts sent through messaging apps to recruit fleets are also ways fraudsters try to steal money or user data.
"Fraudsters created fake social media domains using Jadlog's name and logo, for example, in older scams, to offer false job openings and solicit payments from applicants to participate in the selection process," says Alexandro Strack, Jadlog's IT Director and Data Protection Officer (DPO).
In light of numerous fraudulent practices, Jadlog reinforces that it does not request payments via WhatsApp, email, or social media, nor does it conduct direct sales or charge extra fees through unofficial channels. Furthermore, it reiterates that all genuine company communication is exclusively through official institutional channels on the website. jadlog.com.br This is a website address. There's no text to translate. The translation of a website address is just the address itself. On Instagram @jadlog.oficial, Facebook @jadlogoficial, and LinkedIn @jadloglogistica. This applies to other transportation companies and various businesses in the market, and people need to be aware of not being deceived by criminals, who are becoming increasingly audacious," Strack added.
Internally, the company is investigating the facts and complaints submitted by clients, aiming to locate the source of the scams and identify the fraudsters. Jadlog has notified the São Paulo Civil Police of these crimes and continues to cooperate with the investigations. Concurrently, it has been disseminating fraud alerts on its official channels to protect clients and partners.
