Transport sector adopts PIX and artificial intelligence to cut costs and prevent fraud

Fast, free, and available 24 hours a day, PIX has become the primary payment method in Brazil, recently reaching its historic usage record. On June 6, 2025, the system recorded 276.7 million transactions in just 24 hours, according to data from the Central Bank. By the end of 2024, over 75% of the population was already using PIX more frequently than cash, debit, or credit cards—a significant shift in Brazilians’ financial behavior.

In the logistics and road transport sector, it couldn’t be different. Drivers and transport companies are adopting digital payments to make refueling faster, safer, and, most importantly, cheaper. The process that once required physical cards, manual authentication, and settlement periods is now completed in seconds through a simple AI-powered app. The technology ensures trusted data in transactions, reduces costs, improves operational efficiency, and simplifies payments at fuel stations.

Ricardo Lerner, CEO of the refueling management platform Gasola, highlights that implementing AI in logistics brings agility and reliability to transport companies’ operations. ‘Automated data reading will soon make any manual input unnecessary. With automatic data cross-checking, we can identify typing errors and unauthorized vehicle refueling, while also generating more consistent reports to support companies’ decision-making.’

The transformation driven by artificial intelligence is already reflected in concrete gains in logistics operations. Companies that have adopted AI report faster processes, better control, and reduced operational costs. A study by consulting firm McKinsey & Company indicates that AI can generate up to 15% savings in logistics costs, particularly through real-time management optimization and data analysis. Additionally, the 2024 Commercial Transport State Report noted a 40% decrease in road accidents among companies that incorporated AI-based technologies, highlighting positive impacts on road safety.

The CEO emphasizes that, beyond logistics, this advancement enables more competitive pricing and better control for fleet managers. ‘Through pre-negotiated values and upfront payments at refueling, the system offers prices below market rates, eliminating interest generated by fleet cards, which traditionally pay gas stations in 30 to 35 days,’ explains the executive.

AI has also proven useful in preventing fraud such as odometer tampering, unauthorized vehicle refueling, or improper charges. ‘We use AI to cross-check refueling data in real time with images recorded during the operation. The system requires drivers to submit photos of the pump, truck, license plate, odometer, and a selfie. This set of information is automatically processed, drastically reducing the possibility of fraud,’ says Ricardo Lerner.

The expectation is that efficiency gains will grow even further with the introduction of new functionalities in the PIX ecosystem and adaptation to AI tools. ‘Our platform has evolved significantly with feedback from users,’ concludes the CEO.
