The Edenred Repom Freight Index (IFR) revealed that the average freight price per kilometer traveled reached R$ 6.33 in July, registering an increase of 0.31% compared to June. This increase reflects the update of the minimum freight floors of road freight transport, carried out by the National Agency for Land Transport (ANTT) in mid-July.“The adjustment in the table did not significantly impact the value of freight in July, but a more pronounced influence on prices of August” is expected, says Viniciosandes, Director of Edenredom Repredom.
In addition to the readjustment in the freight table, the price of diesel also contributed to the rise.Data from the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL) indicate that the average price of the liter of ordinary diesel reached R$ 6.04 and diesel S-10 to R$ 6.17 in July, both with an increase of 0.33% compared to the first half of the month. Diesel represents about 40% of the freight cost.
Another factor that maintains the upward trend in the freight price is the heating of the construction market. According to the July 2024 report of the economics committee of the Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry (CBIC) and the National Industrial Learning Service (SENAI), the demand for transport in the construction segment has increased due to the flow of raw materials. Construction costs have remained high since January 2020, showing increases above the official inflation of the country.
“In addition to the readjustment in the table, the increase in the price of diesel and the high construction costs maintain the upward trend in the freight price, recorded since May of this year, and this trend may continue in the coming months”, concludes Fernandes.
