A new technology promises to simplify how patients access and store digital medical prescriptions in Brazil. The innovation, resulting from an unprecedented integration between the RCS (Rich Communication Services) protocol and Google Wallet, allows prescriptions to be received via message and saved directly to the smartphone with just one click.
The implementation was led by Ótima Digital Group, a national leader in messaging and communication automation, in partnership with Memed, the country's leader in digital prescriptions. The project is the first of its kind in Brazil and represents a significant advancement in the healthcare ecosystem.
According to Marcos Guerra, CRO and CXO of Ótima Digital, the initiative reduces reliance on multiple applications and simplifies the user experience. “The person receives the prescription via RCS and can immediately save the document. It is a fluid, reliable, and secure journey, supported by encryption features, within a single, controlled environment.”
From the physician's perspective, the process remains the same: after finalizing the prescription on the platform, they choose the delivery channel. When the message is received, provided the device and carrier are compatible, the option to save to Google Wallet appears automatically. The initial results were significant: half of the users who viewed the message interacted with it, and of those, 11% stored it digitally.
For Memed's Chief Product Officer, Gláucia Sayuri Miyazaki, the data confirms the initiative's potential. “The proof of concept showed that RCS provides a more engaging and efficient experience for the patient. Furthermore, we were able to validate the technical feasibility of direct integration between RCS and Google Wallet, an unprecedented innovation,” she states.
Beyond the healthcare sector, Ótima Digital is already exploring new applications for the technology, such as sending tickets, vouchers, bills, boarding passes, and other documents with QR codes or barcodes that require physical presentation. In all cases, the goal is to ensure a more practical, secure, and integrated experience for the end user.
