OLX registers a 1421% growth in used iPhone sales

OLX, a marketplace for used, auto and real estate classifieds, recorded a significant 142% growth in used iPhone sales, taking into account the four versions that precede the iPhone 17, launched last September 19. The analysis evaluated the 30 days after the date of this release compared to the previous 30 days. The data reveal the heating of the used smartphone market, driven by the search for economy and sustainability.

“ The market of used iPhones continues to expand, reflecting a change in the behavior of the Brazilian consumer, which seeks quality technology with more affordable prices”, says Flávio Passos, VP of Autos and Consumer Goods of the OLX Group. “In addition to the significant financial savings, the purchase of used devices contributes to the circular economy and sustainability,” he adds.

The best-selling iPhones ranking between September 19 and October 18 this year was led by the iPhone 13, representing 22.11TP3 market share t. Then come the iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15.

The three most popular models concentrate 41.4% of all sales of iPhones used on the platform, demonstrating the preference of consumers for cost-effective devices.

The survey also indicates that the iPhone 13 also leads the search and ad rankings through the platform, after the launch of the iPhone 17.

Significant savings for consumers

The analysis of prices practiced through the platform reveals that the purchase of used iPhones provides a substantial savings for consumers of around R$ 2,194 per device.

Highlight for recent releases

The iPhone 16 Pro Max stood out as the model with the greatest growth variation, registering a 197.7% high in sales after the launch of the iPhone 17. This result demonstrates how recent releases drive the secondary market, with consumers opting for earlier versions to save money.

How to make an online purchase more safely

• Do not disclose your personal data or cell phone number;
• Be wary of prices or offers that are much lower than the market price;
• Check the platform for information about the seller, such as account age, company registration, if applicable, and licenses;

• In the case of a face-to-face purchase or delivery, choose busy places, such as squares, shopping malls or subway stations. If possible, always go with another adult;
