Mercado Livre, Latin America's largest e-commerce platform, announces the launch of the "Digital Products" vertical—a new business front enabling the online purchase of 100% digital items with instant delivery, reinforcing its presence in the gaming universe. The initiative represents a strategic expansion move by the company, initially focusing on gift cards, subscriptions, and credits for platforms such as PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo, as well as services like Game Pass and Fortnite.
"Mercado Livre is already recognized as one of the main shopping destinations for the gaming universe, offering a wide assortment of products for this audience. With the launch of the new category, we take an important step to further strengthen this presence, expanding our value proposition in digital entertainment. It is an offering that combines speed, convenience, and security in a fully integrated experience, spanning from purchase to real-time delivery," states Gonzalo Greco, Marketplace Director of Mercado Livre..
The launch occurs at a time of strong growth in the sale of gaming products on the platform. In the first quarter of 2025, the sales volume (GMV) of these items increased by 42%compared to the same period in 2024. This result also reflects the advancement of new buyers in the technology category as a whole, which recorded a 27% growth in the period. This entire performance was driven by factors such as high purchase recurrence, particularly from Generation Z, a high average ticket size, and fast deliveries.
Since the beginning of testing for the "Digital Products" vertical, PlayStation and Nintendo Gift Cards have been among the best-selling products, highlighting the advancement of digitalization in gaming content consumption. These items complement the offering of consoles, such as the PlayStation 5 (Digital and Physical) and Xbox Series S , which led the category's sales volume in the first quarter of this year, and the recent launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 (on June 5), reinforcing Mercado Livre's capability in relevant launches from the global gaming industry.
Gaming Week with discounts of up to 50%
To continue engaging with this audience, the company is promoting, starting on June 16, another edition of Gaming Week, an initiative that brings together a comprehensive curation of products from the gaming ecosystem with discounts of up to 50% on consoles, peripherals, and accessories—such as headsets, keyboards, computer components, and laptops. The action is part of the company's strategy to establish itself as a reference destination for gaming consumers in Latin America.
