Mercado Livre presents the results of the Impact Report “O best of Brazil”, a study carried out in partnership with Euromonitor International, which evaluates the social and economic impact generated by entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through their ecosystem, confirming the transformative force of the digital economy in the country.
With consolidated data from 2024, the report reveals that 5.8 million businesses used the company's ecosystem in the country, moving R$381 billion, equivalent to 3.2% of Brazilian GDP.For 59% of SMEs operating in the marketplace, sales generated in the Free Market represent its main source of revenue. There were more than R$ 90 billion in sales generated by SMEs through the Free Market last year.
And this impact goes beyond sales volume: more than 111 thousand jobs have emerged directly by SMEs selling in the marketplace. Considering also the direct jobs of the Free Market and indirect jobs linked to logistics, were generated, on average, 20 new jobs per hour.
The strength of the ecosystem is also in the integration of the different business chains. In addition to the marketplace and its own logistics, Mercado Pago has been consolidating itself as a growth engine for small companies: 60.5% of SMEs that adopted the digital bank in 2024 reported an increase in sales. Today, 3 out of 5 SMEs on the platform use Mercado Pago as their main means of payment.
“O report shows how Mercado Livre has been fulfilling its mission of democratizing access to trade and financial services, shortening distances and expanding opportunities. More than numbers, the data reflect real stories of transformation experienced by millions of Brazilians who undertake and grow together with the platform. This entrepreneurial Brazil is at the heart of our ecosystem, generating development and growth. After all, what moves us is this: delivering the best of Brazil every day, inside and outside our platform”, he said Fernando Yunes, Senior Vice President and Head of Mercado Livre in Brazil.
The survey of the Impact Report “O Best of Brazil” was developed based on more than 7,700 interviews with SMEs and entrepreneurs active in Mercado Livre and Mercado Pago, in addition to considering the analysis of internal company data and qualitative interviews with logistics chain agents, such as last mile operators and distribution centers of the company. link.
*Taking as reference the data of the GDP of Brazil in 2024 according to IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) considering the gross sales in the marketplace, the salary mass mobilized by the shipments arising from sales and gross sales processed via Mercado Pago.
