Magalu announces directors to lead AliExpress integration and market scale

Magalu announced the arrival of two executives to strengthen its marketplace operation. Raul Jacob will face the challenge of structuring the company's cross-border operation – integration with AliExpress will be his first mission at Magalu. Meanwhile, Kael Lourenço joins the team to accelerate the growth in the number of partners and offers.

Both executives have experience in marketplace operations at major companies operating in the domestic market. With this move, Magalu reinforces its marketplace team to accelerate the growth of sellers and products in the coming quarters.

With experience at Shein and Shopee, Jacob holds a degree in Engineering from Universidade Mackenzie, specialized at the UK's University of East London, and studied Marketing at Harvard Business School. “Cross-border in Brazilian retail is still in its early stages. This market will grow significantly and there is much to be conquered. Magalu's brand and the level of service the company offers will be differentiators in this equation,” stated the executive. “Our first task will be to bring this unprecedented agreement with AliExpress to life. Customers will have a unique shopping experience within Magalu's app, website, and store. I am very excited about this challenge.”

A graduate in International Relations from Unesp with a specialization from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), Lourenço has over 15 years of experience at companies such as Mercado Livre. “Magalu is already a platform with significant traffic and a solid marketplace operation. However, there is room to accelerate the growth of this operation. We are already one of the main players in the country and will consolidate our position,” said the director.

Magalu is currently one of the largest digital retail platforms in Brazil, with approximately 40 million active customers. In 2023, the company's total e-commerce revenue reached 46 billion reais – with its marketplace (3P), created just seven years ago, achieving 18 billion reais in sales, representing 17% growth compared to 2022. Magalu recorded total sales of 63.1 billion reais for the year.

The company's 3P operation is a benchmark in Brazil. In June, the company was identified as the only marketplace with 100% regularity in mobile phone sales in e-commerce, according to a list released by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). The regulatory body established a series of measures to inhibit the offering of non-compliant devices. Of the seven companies mentioned in the decisional order published in the Official Federal Gazette, only Magalu stands out in full compliance.
