Magalu announces André Palme as head of Estante Virtual, a marketplace that connects readers to secondhand bookstores and bookshops across Brazil. The executive will report directly to Christiane Bistaco, CEO of the company acquired by the group in 2020, and will oversee operations, commercial, and marketing areas.
With 13 years of experience in the publishing industry, Palme joins Estante Virtual to boost the growth and consolidation of the new platform – launched at the end of last year with a more robust structure and improved usability – as well as strengthening the brand’s institutional presence through connections with the market and Brazilian booksellers. The first steps of his tenure will focus on further refining the end-user experience, with initiatives related to shipping, seller partnerships, product catalog, among others.
“I was very honored by the invitation to lead a business and a brand so beloved by readers and respected by market stakeholders. The mission is, together with the publishing industry and all our partners, to take Estante Virtual even further and bring books to more and more Brazilians,” he says. “We want to do all this within a solid, robust, sustainable, and fair ecosystem for everyone involved. For this, dialogue and partnership are always essential.”.
“Magalu has a commitment to the future of Estante Virtual. That’s why we are strengthening our team with leadership that deeply understands the sector, combining market experience and digital vision to drive this brand so cherished by readers and booksellers,” says Christiane Bistaco.
Palme has over 20 years of career experience, 13 of them dedicated to the book market and leading projects involving marketing, technology, and especially content production in all its formats. Since 2022, he served as marketing and content director for the Skeelo app, a startup in which he also became a partner in early 2024. He is a professor at various institutions and coordinator of the Innovation and Technology Commission at the Brazilian Book Chamber.
