iFood announces up to R$300 million to expand deliveries with e-bikes

During COP30, iFood announces the expansion of iFood Pedal, which becomes Latin America's largest delivery decarbonization program using electric bicycles. In this new phase, in partnership with Tembici, the contract provides for the potential expansion of the electric delivery program with up to 45,000 e-bikes, 20,000 of which will be incorporated by 2027, raising the total fleet to over 25,000 electric bicycles operating in the country in the coming months.

Through this initiative, iFood will invest up to R$ 300 million to expand access to a cleaner, more economical, efficient mode of transport with the potential to increase delivery partners' earnings. Furthermore, the program's expansion reinforces the company's commitment to sustainable mobility. The expansion of electric bicycles represents an estimated reduction of 7,500 tons of CO₂ per year, a volume of carbon that approximately 300,000 trees would take one year to absorb.

“Making this announcement during COP30 reinforces iFood's commitment to sustainable growth and leadership in the energy transition in Brazil. We demonstrate that it is possible to reconcile purpose, technology, and positive impact at scale. As a Brazilian company, we continue to drive the economy and strengthen communities – because growing together is what drives iFood,” states Luana Ozemela, CSO and Vice President of Impact and Sustainability at iFood.

Tembici, iFood's partner since the program's inception, is the largest micromobility operator in Latin America, with over 25,000 bicycles and a presence in four countries. The company, a reference in sustainable urban mobility, manages the operation and expansion of the e-bikes used by delivery partners in various capitals across the country. For Tomás Martins, CEO and Co-founder of Tembici, the project's expansion reinforces the company's commitment to ensuring increasingly scalable, inclusive, and sustainable micromobility models.

“We are very happy to announce the expansion of a project that combines sustainable income generation and a zero-carbon emission operation, which has already potentially avoided over 13,000 tons of CO₂. Since 2020, this partnership has evolved with valuable learnings and now takes a historic step, becoming Latin America's largest decarbonization project through electric bicycles and a real opportunity for work and stability for delivery cyclists in a truly scalable and transformative model for cities,” comments the executive.

A Brazilian company that is a global reference

The advancement of iFood Pedal is part of the company's broader strategy to reduce emissions and promote sustainable urban mobility solutions. Beyond investments in electric modes of transport, iFood operates on national and international fronts that consolidate its leadership in climate innovation and urban inclusion. Check it out:

World Economic Forum – iFood Pedal was featured in the Last Mile Delivery report as one of the main global references in sustainable mobility and logistics innovation. The program combines operational efficiency, social inclusion, and positive environmental impact, showing how solutions created in Brazil can inspire public policies and business practices in other countries.

Brazilian representation in international coalitions: The company is the sole Brazilian representative in the global Deliver-E coalition, supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The group brings together companies like Uber, DoorDash, Delivery Hero, and Zomato to accelerate the electrification of deliveries worldwide.

Business leadership at the SB COP: iFood is part of the Sustainable Business COP (SB COP), the conference's business front that brings together Brazilian companies to build joint solutions for a low-carbon economy. Within this initiative, the company leads working groups on sustainable mobility and green innovation, strengthening the private sector's role in the climate transition.

Structure and well-being of delivery partners: As part of this vision for urban sustainability, iFood maintains an ongoing program to create Support Points for delivery partners, free spaces with facilities for resting, hydration, and recharging phones and bicycles. Currently, 30 units are operational in various regions of the country. The most recent one was inaugurated in Belém. This new space is the first in the city and incorporates sustainable practices throughout the project, becoming a national reference in infrastructure for delivery partners. The ambiance values local culture, with works by regional artisans, and adopts solutions such as natural lighting and ventilation, reforested wood furniture, selective waste collection, and biophilic architecture.

Brazilian leadership

A 100% Brazilian technology company, iFood is a reference in innovation, sustainability, and economic development. Its ecosystem moves R$ 140 billion per year, equivalent to 0.64% of the national GDP, and generates over 1 million direct and indirect jobs.

The platform handles over 160 million orders per month, connecting 60 million monthly customers, 450 thousand partner establishments – including restaurants, markets, pharmacies, and pet shops – and 450 thousand active delivery partners in over 1,500 cities. Currently, iFood subsidizes part of the rental.

Based on cutting-edge technology, iFood daily enhances delivery efficiency and partner experience, using artificial intelligence and predictive models to optimize routes, reduce waiting times at restaurants, and ensure greater efficiency in delivery partners' routes. Recently, iFood announced an investment of R$ 17 billion by March 2026, aimed at technological expansion, logistical strengthening, and the growth of the entire ecosystem. Of this total, the company estimates that the earnings of delivery professionals working on the platform will reach R$ 5.2 billion in the period, a 27% increase compared to the previous year.

“The new phase of iFood Pedal, in partnership with Tembici, reinforces our commitment to logistics innovation to reduce polluting gas emissions and expand the range of solutions for delivery partners. This expansion is an important step towards accessibility to efficient vehicles, generating value for the entire ecosystem of delivery partners, customers, and partners,” concludes Mariana Werneck, Senior Director of Logistics at iFood.
