The All England Lawn Tennis Club and IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced today new and enhanced digital experiences with AI technology for the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. Debuting the “Match Chat’, an interactive AI assistant that can answer fans’ questions during live singles matches. The tool “Likelihood to Win’’ is also being enhanced, offering fans a projected winning percentage that can change throughout each match.
The solutions, which combine match data and generative AI capabilities, with watsonx, are the latest in the All England Club and IBM’s mission to provide tennis fans with innovative and unique ways to engage during the championship fortnight.
Match Chat is available on the Wimbledon app and on wimbledon.com. Fans can interact with the assistant using pre-written prompts or their own questions (for example; ‘who converted more break points in the match?’, or ‘who is performing better in the match?’). Instant responses and AI-powered match analyses are generated, providing insights and enhancing the fan experience.
Match Chat was developed with technologies from watsonx Orchestrate, including a suite of AI agents and large language models (LLMs), such as IBM Granite, trained on Wimbledon’s editorial style and tennis terminology. It will also be available post-match on IBM Slamtracker for selected high-profile matches.
The enhanced “Likelihood to Win” tool generates projections from a comprehensive, AI-driven analysis of player statistics, expert opinion, and match momentum. The tool utilizes IBM technologies, including Red Hat Openshift, which enables developers to build, deploy, and scale applications quickly and efficiently across multiple environments.
Together, these features aim to help Wimbledon create complementary experiences to engage tennis fans, new and old, around the world even further. They also offer fans more ways to interact with all the thrilling action of the men’s and women’s singles matches – as they happen.
Fans can access these and other features through IBM Slamtracker, available on the Wimbledon app and on wimbledon.com.
Usama Al-Qassab, Marketing and Commercial Director of the All England Club, said: “We are committed to providing fans with the best possible Wimbledon experience, whether interacting with us via TV, radio, digitally, or within the stadium. The innovations we’ve introduced in recent years, powered by generative AI, in collaboration with IBM, allow us to offer more exciting ways for our hundreds of millions of fans worldwide to engage with the Championship. This year’s new features will encourage the Wimbledon audience to get involved in all the match action like never before.”
Jonathan Adashek, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications at IBM, said: “Solutions like Match Chat and Likelihood to Win show how AI in watsonx can provide tennis fans with the insights and real-time engagement they desire for this historic tournament and its players. Our 35-year partnership with the All England Club is another example of how IBM helps customers unlock and derive lasting value from their unique data using AI.”
The Wimbledon Championships will take place from June 30 to July 13, 2025. To see the technology in action, visit wimbledon.com or download the Wimbledon app on your mobile device, available on the App Store and Google Play Store.
