The convenience of receiving purchases without leaving home has officially become a trend in the education sector. Data from EdTech Layers confirms this: in the last sales cycle of school materials, which took place between September 2023 and May 2024, R$1,453 million (Note: Assuming "R$" is a typo and should be R$1.453.000.000) was transacted in sales of books, workbooks, enrollments, and other items, totaling over 338,900 users served on the platform.
Layers is the startup behind the Education SuperApp, an ecosystem of customizable solutions for educational institutions. Sales are conducted through the platform; each institution creates its own store and handles sales end-to-end. The startup acts as an intermediary between students, guardians, and suppliers, who may offer books, workbooks, uniforms, extracurricular courses, etc.
The marketplace created by the educational institution was designed and dedicated to serving this segment. For Layers' CEO, Danilo Yoneshige, this is yet another move by EdTech to offer freedom to schools and families. “Having an online location to make school purchases offers ease and convenience to the school community. Furthermore, for those who need a partner to sell trips and extracurricular courses, they don't need to rely on card machines or in-person service.”
Layers aims to provide a single location for all the tools a school uses, including communication and scheduling apps, as well as deep integration with management systems that process external data in real time. It already serves over 1,600 schools and universities, with 850,000 registered students and over half a billion reais in transactions.
Marketplace: Sales X-Ray
Total sales of 80% were directed to the sale of school supplies such as books and workbooks. The remainder was divided between enrollments, re-enrollments, and others, such as extracurricular activities, uniforms, meals, etc. (16%), events such as graduations, trips, commemorative dates, etc. (4%). The average ticket during the period was R$ 1,115 per transaction.
