As part of its constant customer-centric innovation, dLocal today announced the launch of SmartPix: a cutting-edge solution that takes the Pix experience to a new level.Developed entirely by the payments platform, SmartPix allows users to operate with Pix securely to make occasional or variable-value payments, without having to authorize each transaction manually.
Pix, the most used payment method in Brazil, exceeded in 2024 the 63.8 billion transactions & more than all traditional cards and methods combined & already represents 29% of the total online purchases. Until now, each transaction needed to be authorized individually by the user, which generated friction in business models based on operations with frequency or variable value.
“O SmartPix is here to make the shopping experience easier: it allows merchants to offer truly integrated payments, without QR codes or repeated validations, and make the most of the potential of Pix in complex scenarios, such as event payments or variable values. It is a technology designed to scale, without losing security or” control, explained Gabriel Falk, SmartPix product manager at dLocal.
SmartPix, an update for customers and suppliers
SmartPix allows instant, secure and QR code payments with Pix: the initial user authorization is transformed into a secure identifier (“oken” (Uber, Amazon, Temu, among others) without the need to repeat the process manually each time. In this way, Pix payments work as a saved credential, similar to using an archived card.
Thanks to this update, commercial establishments can:
- Increase conversion and retention of users.
- Charge variable values, adapted to each transaction.
- Avoid using QR codes.
- Avoid delays by finalizations/ checkouts repeated.
- Set up payments automatically without adding friction.
"We were able to solve the challenge of tokenizing the Pix experience in Brazil. While the Automatic Pix allows recurring payments with predictable frequency, SmartPix allows collections on demand, with variable values and without the need to redo the checkout. No QR codes. No friction. A fully tokenized 'Pix on file. With SmartPix, we redefine what Pix is capable of doing going forward”, explains Gabriel Falk, product manager at dLocal.
Among the sectors that will benefit most from this solution, we highlight:
- Transport and delivery applications, where each trip or order has a different value.
- E-commerce and marketplaces, with several purchases per user at different times and for different values.
- Advertising platforms, which require dynamic payments based on active campaigns.
With SmartPix, dLocal ushers in a new era of digital payments: simpler, faster and frictionless, pushing the boundaries of the Pix ecosystem and redefining the way digital payments are made in Latin America.
