99 announces the launch of Mais Segura, a safety feature created exclusively for female passengers on the platform. This feature allows users to activate extra protection tools with just a few clicks, such as sharing their route with trusted contacts, real-time monitoring throughout the journey, and audio recording of the trip.
This initiative is part of the 99 Mais Mulheres, program, which aims to strengthen safety, inclusion, and female empowerment in ride-hailing. The feature adds another layer of security for women, especially in more vulnerable situations like nighttime or long-distance rides.
"At 99, the pursuit of contributing to safety and comfort is continuous and non-negotiable. More than just a tool, Mais Segura is an important step in the company's journey to make ride-hailing more reliable, inclusive, and respectful for everyone, especially for us women”," states Maria Luiza Marcolan, Senior Manager and Lead for Safety Prevention and Perception at 99.
SAFETY IS THE PRIORITY
Mais Segura joins a portfolio of tools and initiatives by 99 focused on women's safety, addressing the demands of both female passengers and partner drivers on the platform.
A survey conducted by Instituto Locomotiva in November 2024 in partnership with 99 revealed that 97% of low-income women worry about sexual harassment during their commutes. Furthermore, 69% point to walking as the riskiest mode of transport, even though it is a mandatory part of their mobility routine.“This data proves the need for initiatives that make our female passengers' trips more comfortable and safe. The quick and discreet activation of various functions with just a few clicks helps combat vulnerabilities faced by women in urban transport”," explains Maria Luiza.
The various safety-focused actions implemented by 99 contribute to the company maintaining a 99.99% rate of trips completed without incidents and a 32.5% reduction in harassment incidents against female passengers in the first half of 2024.
Besides Mais Segura, Other initiatives under 99 Mais Mulheres include: the 99Mulher Button, which allows female partner drivers to receive ride requests only from female passengers, and a 24/7 Safety Center, with specialized teams to assist female passengers in reporting cases.
With this new feature, 99 reinforces its commitment to investing in technology, humanized service, and initiatives that enhance the protection and autonomy of women during their commutes. For more information about Mais Segura, visit: https://passageiros.99app.com/recurso-mais-segura/.
