5 Lessons that sport brings to business

On July 26, the world will be watching the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. The event, which brings together athletes of different nationalities and sports, is a showcase of values and lessons that can be applied in various areas of life, including in the business world.

With that in mind, Beatriz Ambrosio, CEO and founder of Mention, the first PR startup in Latin America, separated 5 lessons that the Olympics and sport can bring to executives.

  1. Strategy

Just like in a sports match, where every move is carefully planned to achieve victory, companies need to devise an action plan that allows them to achieve the goals.“A strategy is critical to direct efforts, optimize resources and overcome competition. Without clear planning, both athletes and companies can lose focus and direction, compromising the” performance, explains Ambrosio.

  1. Collaboration

A well-integrated team, where each member knows their role and works in harmony with the others, tends to achieve better results. Likewise, corporations that encourage collaboration among employees promote a healthier and more motivating work environment. The union of the team can lead to innovation, rapid problem solving and the strengthening of team spirit.

  1. Leadership

Great athletes are examples of leadership and demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges. In the market, this aspect is fundamental to guide, stimulate creativity and ensure the progress of the business. Effective leaders can motivate people and achieve ambitious goals. “As a captain on the playing field, a good leader knows when to delegate, support and make strategic decisions”, he comments.

  1. Diversity

The Olympics bring together sportsmen from different cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds. This diversity enriches competitions and provides new perspectives. Likewise, organizations that value diversity tend to be more innovative, as they harness the potential of their talents. “Inclusion in the workplace can lead to fertile solutions and a broader understanding of the global” market, Ambrosio says.

This year, the Brazilian delegation will have for the first time in history more women than men. There are 277 athletes in total, 153 women and 124 men. Thus, 55% are women athletes, a number higher than in the Tokyo Olympics, when they represented 47%.

  1. Liability

Athletes are examples of discipline and commitment, dedicating themselves intensely to training and disputes. In the business world, responsibility is fundamental to build a solid brand and win the trust of partners. Conscious companies are those that fulfill their promises, act ethically and are committed to the quality of services and customer satisfaction.

“By incorporating these lessons from sport, brands can strengthen their organizational culture, increase their competitiveness and achieve lasting success. Strategy, collaboration, leadership, diversity and responsibility are essential pillars for both athletes and entrepreneurs seeking to be a reference in their respective” segments, he concludes.
